I thought about this as well, but I think in the long run, it'll actually be better. Without a keyboard, it takes me a while to actually type things out in Animal Crossing games (even with a stylus, imagine without one), and you're just idle, waiting to type it out. I think typing out things on the phone could potentially be easier and faster.

I do hope we get both options and I'm kiiiinda thinking they will. I probably will voice chat with my IRL friends, anyway.

I would be very surprised if we don't get both ways of typing in game. As far as voice chat goes, I will probably just stick to using discord, but it is nice to have the option available. More options are better, right?

In-game keyboards are a thing, no need to worry, it was shown at 6:56 in the direct and at 24:02 in the faq, it seems no one has noticed that yet...

We know that there will be a keyboard in the game, how else would we name our character and the town? But we?ve seen no indication of a keyboard you can pull up fir chatting purposes, like in past games.

Some have noticed. It is just being argued that seeing them while typing a letter doesn't mean that we can access them to chat. Which is a fair point.

I agree with you though. Not everyone has a smartphone and I don't think they will take away that feature.

I'm glad they have an app for that now, but unfortunately, my current phone isn't really all that good. Hopefully I will get a new one for this Christmas, but for now I probably won't use the app just yet. :/

There was speculation that there would be an app that scans QR codes and I'm glad it's still a thing, but I'm disappointed that there is no design function mentioned in the NH's direct? So I hope we still have the option to design on the Switch, somehow.
I will probably stick to just texting when trading with people on the forums, I'm not too confident speaking with strangers, however, I will stick to discord when it comes to chatting with people I know and trust.
Also, I saw a passport option on the app too, so hopefully that has our (fingers crossed) dream address code, friend code and maybe even current villagers.
