None of my villagers gave me anything for Valentine's day...

I don't know why, I thought they gave people gifts, but also I didn't go on ACNL on Valentine's Day so I am not sure.

Most likely that's the case. If you haven't talked to them multiple times and built up the friendship via them inviting you over or you going over to their house, getting random gifts, letters, and any other kinds of non-tutorial dialogues then most likely you wouldn't get a v-day gift from them. I think the lowest level gift is a hybrid flower though if you are good friends, so you might not have been active enough. Sorry There's always next year?

One, are you on high level terms with them? Second, are you on speaking terms for that matter? I have 4 players in my town, 3 are mutes to the animals, the other is the mayor who talks to them everyday, and he got a chocolate heart, but none of the other 3 did- they all got cake from Isabelle though.

I resetted my town the day before valentines, so I only got the chocolate cake from isabelle xD I was so hoping for a purple rose though! I don't have that coloured rose yet. Does Hiatuses make the friendship level go down?

I reset my town on Valentines, so Valentines day wasn't even a thing in my town. It was the fishing tourney instead. I might TT back though, to at least get the cake from Isabelle. Is it only the cake you get from Isabelle? Or is it a possibility of other things?

You have to have a very strong friendship with one of them in order to get a gift in the mail. That's your BFF. I think that same villager is also the one who will throw you a birthday party. My birthday is only two months after Valentine's Day, so Erik should be the one to host my party. ♥

Only 1 villager of the opposite sex will give you a gift on Valentine's Day. If the friendship is so-so they will give you either a purple or pink rose. If the friendship is high then they will give you the heart-shaped box of chocolates. Last year I got the heart-shaped box of chocolates, but this year only the hybrid rose.
