no villager on nook mile ticket island

i saw a couple of tiktoks of people going 'villager hunting' and seeing villagers in islands that you travel to with nook miles tickets, but whenever i travel to a diff. island using a nook mile ticket, i don't see any villagers!!! am i doing something wrong?

You need to have an open plot available on your island for villagers to appear.

It's a reserved piece of land for a house to be built. You can build up to ten lots by talking to Tom nook in visitor services.

i already have 10 villagers, does one have to leave in order to get an empty plot?

Yep, you'll have to wait for someone to ask to leave your island, they'll have a thought bubble above their heads when they ask about moving out encourage them to. When they move out you'll have an empty plot and you can go villager hunting on that day.
