I?m running low on MEOW coupons so I check what my initiatives are. Nibble Fish Initiative : 3 coupons! I check my encyclopedia and I haven?t caught one yet, so I figure one stone - 3 birds! Get me some coupons, fill my encyclopedia and donate it to the museum.

Ok guys. These critters are deceiving. Firstly, even though they are a very small fish they don?t use the tiny shadow with the goldfish. Their shadows are the next size up with crucian carps and blue gills. This was my second mistake taking on this venture (the first was thinking it would be quick and easy.) so much wasted time going after the wrong sized shadow.

So I finally look it up and now I?m targeting the correct sized shadow now. This Nibble Fish is RARE. How many pocketfuls of carps and blue gills did I dump at Reese?s lap? Well I don?t even know. I?m sure she regrets saying she would buy anything at this point - her store just smells of fish.

I also have a theory that the game knows what you?re really hunting and makes it harder by spawning everything else. There weren?t many small shadows among the hordes of large and tiny shadows. What gives?

So my question to you - have you obtained a Nibble Fish yet? I did manage to get mine while typing up this post and will be ignoring this initiative in the future. It?s just not worth it!

I know it's out there, but haven't made a concerted effort to nab it yet. Your post was actually quite helpful in its detail so now I know what I'm looking for at least. Glad you got yours out of the way (it sounds like the way I feel about the mole cricket tbh)

You know what, I really hate those mole crickets. For the longest time I had no idea what that noise was - it never occurred to me there would be a bug you had to dig up. Finally a villager asked me for one. I didn’t know what it was, so to the internet! They are hard to track down and one time when I finally dug it up it ran directly over all the holes from trying to find it that I couldn’t get to it before it disappeared. :|

The first time I caught a nibble fish was the first time I actually realized that it was an actual fish not some generic term for a fish.
"Oh, so that's what that is..."
And the mole cricket continues to elude me, primarily because I stopped trying.

It was a nightmare realizing I had to catch one in Ravena with all my shrubs and flowers and things XD I did manage it without any damage tho, but what a pain.

I too feel like the game knows what fish you want to catch and won't spawn it! There have been rare fish which I've caught in a matter of seconds, while the rare ones for initiatives take HOURS! I have yet to catch this fish, or catch any besides 2. xD I have no idea why my fish encyclopedia is so empty! Yet my bug one is half complete. But my guess that is so because of the island when I would catch bugs for money. So I think before I went on haitus, I just caught those bugs for money and more for collection while working on my towns and didn't care for fish or completing the encyclopedia until after I finished the towns. But at that point I decided to quit ACNL. Oddly enough I had completed my art section of the musuem, and most of the fossil section. Came back 2 years later and I have been working on my towns instead of the encyclopedia or musuem but I did complete the fossil section.

I have caught the mole cricket in my 2nd town, it's fairly easy. Will be more difficult in my main town as I have a lot of flowers and bushes and trees in certain areas.

I usually catch the oarfish when I'm looking for a colenytch (a fish I can neither pronounce or spell) so in the mornings and evenings, in the rain or just in the evenings.

I caught my oarfish on accident! I was on the hunt for a coelacanth when I got the oarfish. I don’t blame you for being worried, either. I would be on the beach night and day until I got it, for any bug or fish in game for the last month.

For me it's the opposite, I feel like whenever I'm looking for something the game spawns 10 back to back. Or maybe I just have great luck. I've never caught a nibble fish but I had the spider crab initiative and caught it instantly, also causing me to complete my diving encyclopedia. So idk.

I catch most of the rare guys at night between 8-11. I often catch multiples of nibble fish, soft shell turtles, the river crab (I can't remember it's actual name, lol), arowana and angel fish. But yeah... the mole cricket: I hate it. It is the worst living creature to catch in New Leaf. I think it warrants a punch in the nose to whoever created it and burdened us with its existence.

I got a nibble fish by accident myself, was just fishing whatever and woosh. :)
Now I only have the sadled bichir left to complete my fish encyclopedia. I think I'll turn the clock a few hours ahead because I'm not about to spend all night looking for that thing >v<
Now, when it comes to bugs, I've literally given up. I'll never catch the mole cricked, scorpion or tarantula, ever.

Maybe have a few empty spots in a field of flowers?

When I first played, it was in the dead of winter so there wasn't much to catch. It took me a while, but eventually I mastered the mole cricket catch. Its really not too hard if you have the space and patience. As for the nibble fish, this is my first ac spring so... The hunt is on! And those tips are really helpful btw. :)
