so, i've been trying to get the last of the fish, bugs, and ocean creatures that i need before october finally passes us over. what i thought would have been a small enough body of water in front of octavian's house is giving me river fish, however; not pond fish. is it because i have a waterfall connecting to it?

what does a pond require? is it literally just a super duper small area of water? i was going to try crafting some fish bait, and seeing if using that helps, but i don't want to waste the bait if it isn't even considered the right body of water. any advice would be greatly appreciated <3

It's 100% because of the waterfall. It's just a small piece of water with no falls attached to it... So if you just remove the waterfall, I believe you'll have a good pond there!

A pond is a closed of area of river. Adding a waterfall, even 1 tile wide, makes the pond into a river. Get rid of those two waterfalls temporarily and it will convert to a pond.

So, if there's a waterfall or a river mouth attached to it, it will be a river.

thank you guys so much, i can't even describe how ridiculous i feel, haha

^is that pond on the third tier by any chance? I have the same, I think it's because third tier ponds count as 'cliff tops' and/or river starting points? Because the main river in your town starts as something similar?

as soon as i cut off the waterfall area, and seperated it, i ended up catching pond fish. guh, such a simple fix <3

yeah, there's something with a clifftop river on the third tier. i'm so new to this stuff, so trying to understand a pond is hard enough

A pond can be very large. Shape matters more than size. If a body of water is roughly shaped like a square or circle, it will be a pond. If a body of water is rectangular or very curvy, it will be a river. Any body of water connected to a waterfall or outlet is automatically a river regardless of its shape. You can test if it's a river or pond by casting your fishing rod anywhere in it. If the bobber moves, it's a river and if the bobber stays in the same place, it's a pond.
