Mollusks. They could have blobby bodies with shells on their backs. Plus, there could be a lot of different kinds! Snails, conches, bivalves, maybe even nudibranchs! (on an unrelated note my phone auto corrects nudibranchs to nudie ranches)

I also thought about snakes being in the game, but then I realized that the villagers kind of need hands.
