There are multiple modes throughout the day. Sunrise -> Day -> Sunset -> Early Night -> Late Night. (I may have missed some, not sure.) The time these 'modes' activate is dependant upon what time you have your clock set to on the forum, so you don't have to worry about having daytime themes while at night time if you live in the UK, etc.
