So in the span of two days I managed to cover the majority of my town in paths making sure there were no 3x3 spaces, and I removed every tree and flower and fossil. I did erase some of course. A whole row of house plots they could choose from. So when I scanned in Fauna I asked Wisp to kick out Renee. I TTed to the next day, excited to see her house on one of the plots I made for her, but she moved right where Renee had lived before she left. And I've been doing the same thing all morning! I scan a new villager but their plot is exactly where the past villager lived. Its an awful cycle. Has anyone else tried this?

And if you didnt know, villagers will not plot on patterns now thanks to the update. Better than plot resetting I suppose?

I found out the hard way, that villagers will now pick any 3x3 space that they can. You have to be VERY CAREFUL and VERY TEDIOUS when placing designs to prevent bad move ins. I had to move Shari into my town 4 times before she moved where I wanted her. I missed like 3 different locations in town, and she moved to all of those locations. The only place she refused to move, is where the villager I kicked out once lived. It was awful. Honestly, even with the update, I'm gonna just have to plot reset the old way now. By making a throwaway character. I had to do so much landscaping after Shari...

yea that happens. this is why instead of kicking villagers out ive been letting them move out naturally, covering their plot in patterns, THEN moving in card villagers. i prefer having the time to pick the villager anyhow.

you could maybe tt back a day and see if the villager is still moved out and if the new villager is trying to move in still, and if theyre not plotted you could cover that spot with patterns and tt forward a day? im unsure if that method works with cards tho, tting back before they started plotting.

edit** i thought id mention its wise to still make a throwaway character just in case of problems like these. still use the old plot resetting check trick just to be safe, yea?

Thanks! Didn't think of this gotta try it rn.

I actually like it this way. Now, plotting is 3X easier than before. When I let Raddle in town, I first laid paths down all around town the best I could, then I plot reset. When Raddle was at the spot I didn't want him at, I simply closed the game and went to settings to change the 3DS clock back 1 day to fix my mistake. I kept doing this until I got him in the preferred spot. Same with Kid Cat.
Now, the new returning villagers Ketchup and Boris are probably going to be easy. Although, I have to move them out naturally to get them. That's where a NEW move-out method comes in.

When a villager pings about moving out, I decline it and TT to the moving date. Then talk to someone inside 10 times to try and see if anyone is moving out. (If the villager is talking about rumors, it must be the one you're talking to that wants to move.) I then talk to the villager that wants to move out from rumors of the villager I talked to. Then I save, quit and start the game again without TTing to talk to the moving villager. I'll keep doing this until I get the villager I want gone.

Heh. I accidentally erased a square when searching for the stupid mole cricket and forgot to put it back. Julian moved in next to my house.

RIP M8

I chose this spot in town, where no one could live next to me. Rosie lives close, and almost right in front of me. I half hate and half love her plot. It's too close to my house for my liking, but I also love being her neighbor...

I thought about doing that, but it messes with the way I'll be laying out this town. It's what I usually do, anyway.

Ah well. I'm not keeping any of the villagers I currently have anyway, so I'm not too miffed.

ok, i'm getting major confused about all this. what i've gathered is they won't land on patterns. great.

but are they more or not prone to plot on top of the villager they were replacing??? i can't tell by the comments on this thread. ;A;

sooo.. should i just cover literally almost everything i can with patterns except a 3x3 spot where i want the villager to move in? 0_0

I'm going to stick to my old method of strategically placing my PWPs and then crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Mott took out a small section of trees when he moved in last week but it wasn't too bad and he plotted right between Beardo and the tent campsite so that was ok. There's only a few places now that I think new villagers could move into anyways.

I mean.. yea they do tend to want to move into the same spot as the villager that was kicked out but you can just plot reset a couple times and they'll move o_o

yeah, when asking Wisp to make someone move out, they'll plot where the villager you replaced used to live. I guess it's useful if you want to keep a certain town layout!

Does this also to apply to villagers you get from other towns?

no, they'll move anywhere just like before the update. I believe that it only applies to villagers moved in because of Wisp

omg, thank you so much for giving a straight answer! right, i would like to keep a certain layout at this point but i can understand if you want to move things around how it could be a pain.
