Hi friends! I'm getting to work on a project I've wanted to do for a while and I was hoping for some help from you friendly folks to make sure it's perfect!
The goal of my project is to make a town on New Leaf that's heavily based on/inspired by the aesthetic of the original GameCube game (I hack so I'll be building it mostly through hacking). I originally wanted to stick to using exclusively materials and items that could be found in the 2002 game, but for a game like New Leaf, it's going to be very restrictive. I wouldn't be able to use bushes, some flower types and colors, nearly any PWPs, most clothing items, and a whole bunch of furniture. So I'm trying to find some compromises that would still evoke the mood I'm going for, and I've found some, but not many.
Right now I've decided that for clothes, I'm going to let my human villagers wear anything I want, but I'll make a matching hat for whatever they wear because you had to wear hats. I've also changed the animal villagers' clothing, catchphrases, and house interiors to as close to the original as possible. And as for PWPs, I've come up with a few ideas to mimic landmarks in the original game, but not much else beyond that.
My biggest problems are with landscaping and how to decorate my character houses. I have no idea how to do either of those things effectively with New Leaf's resources while trying to keep it feeling nostalgic. How can I fill space and make everything look polished? Do you have recommendations for PWPs I can use/how to fill my fully expanded house/etc? I would really appreciate it!
TLDR: I'm working on a New Leaf town based on the GameCube games and I'm having trouble filling space in my house/town if I restrict myself to items only present in the GameCube version
