Some strong impetus gave me need to voice this somewhere, somehow, after I listened to and genuinely tried to like the soundtrack for our newest installment, New Leaf. So what better place to voice it than the Bell Tree Forums? : )

As we all know, Animal Crossing has long been known for a great soundtrack we can all enjoy. Peaceful, interesting, fitting, unique. There has obviously been a lot of immediate positive feedback for the new soundtrack for AC:NL.
But to me, I felt like I just couldn't get myself to like it as much as the music for 7am, 8am, 2pm, loadgame, title screen, Nookington's, etc. in Population Growing, Wild World, and City Folk. Not saying it's bad, but different -- not that different is wrong either.

Especially compared to Population Growing, there is a lot of piano, and minor key chords, in the new hourly BGM (not that I have a problem with it, but it makes the music sound much more like blues, as if it belonged in the cafe and not the outdoors background). There is also a lot of sound effects, which is great, but something just seemed off to me.

I seem to perceive that the New Leaf hourly BGM is lacking, repetitive, and...unfitting. It is definitely calmer, in almost all aspects, and I'm sure I'll grow to like it more as I continue to play and get used to the game. But still, even though I would like to, I can't seem to find a single piece of music in New Leaf that I like it in its place more than any of the pieces in Population Growing.

Thanks for reading, fellow villagers.

I personally prefer the old music, but it's good to have a little bit of change. The new music is fine too, it's not upsetting to listen to so I don't have a problem.
