New Leaf-ifying my Island... Help me figure out what decided the placement of the Museum in New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf the Museum was on Main Street, and it was either on the left or right side of Main Street in that game... If I recall correctly it was on the opposite side of the beach that is either on the left or right side of the town..? I need help remembering what determined the placement of the Museum in New Leaf, so I can accurately place the Museum on my island when I do request to have it moved tomorrow.

To add to this, you could place your museum using this information by doing this following:

1. Opposite side of your pier, or
2. Opposite side of your island's 'peninsula."
