New game help

So the entire time I've been playing i have just been a villager on my boyfriends town, and today my boyfriend bought me my own copy so I can start my *own* town.

So I moved my character over but I don't like the map, fruit, or any of that. If I was to not save so I can restart, will my character disappear? Or would it just put me on the train again?

There was a topic on here a few weeks ago that said you can keep restarting until you get a map you like (provided you didn't already pick one and save). I haven't done it myself though so I can't say for sure if it works.

I haven't saved yet. All I've done was get to the town. Isabelle is still following me around so I can 'become mayor'. I'm just afraid I will lose my old character.
