New and I don't understand how to play with others on ACNL

Hi,
I have been playing on my own for awhile. I see lots of people posting their friend codes at the Train Station board. But, I don't understand how I actually play with someone? Do I just add the friend code or do I need their name? The DS asks for a name.

You have to add their friendcode and if it says enter a name then it means they haven't added you back yet. You have to wait until the other person has added your friendcode as well until you can play together.
