Aghh, I'm torn between the FE Fates edition New 3DS XL and the Pokemon 20th Anniversary 3DS. Tell me important differences between them and what you like about each one and just general advice thx!

They're basically identical except for:

- The obvious screen size
- Swappable cover plates (only available on New 3DS)
- ABXY button colours. Full colour on the New 3DS, letter colour on the New 3DS XL
- Material feel: New 3DS is generally matte, XL is generally glossy.

Might be missing something but that pretty much covers it. I own both (black XL and AC:HHD regular) and generally I prefer the design and feel of the smaller one better, but the bigger screen size of the XL is almost just as good. It's a tossup honestly but ultimately the screen size wins out as that's the one I'm currently using. I wish they would make an XL sized version of the small one basically.

I prefer XL, mainly because of the bigger screens and the size in general, I have a hard time pressing too small consoles because of my long/large hands. I have the HHD n3ds xl and the design is lovely (prefer it over most LE/Special ones)

The white interior looks amazing on the FE fates one but I'm more a pokemon fan. I'm pretty sad for missing the 100 dollar trade credit thing they did at gamestop as my little brother has a really old 3ds and I could have given him my xl.

It's pretty much portability vs functionality. hmmm Btw, is the pokemon version a good value? It feels a bit expensive.

If you really like the games and Pok?mon in general? Each LE has their charm and if you want the game(s) it's worth it. Mine had HHD pre-installed and I wanted the game and a console so. I think they are both as portable so it all depends on your budget and the game you want.

Keep in mind that the Fire Emblem Fates model doesn't have any game pre-installed, whereas the Pok?mon 20th Anniversary one has both Pok?mon Red and Blue ready to play.

There's also a few more things that I'd like to mention about the New 3DS XL and the smaller counterpart.
If my own New 3DS XL model is anything, it's that the C-Stick protrudes a bit less than the standard New 3DS, which could render the input a bit more difficult to grip and register in a consistent manner. Since most of the 3DS games never relied on it to progress, I believe it could be a moot point.
The stylus included in the standard New 3DS model is significantly thinner than the retractable stylus from the original 3DS released back in early 2011, although nowhere near as thin as the original DS circa 2004. This can make certain touch screen based games more uncomfortable to play if you rely on that stylus

I'm definitely an XL kind of girl. Even though the normal-sized New 3DS is bigger than the "old" one, it's still not quite large enough for me.

They're both equally capable devices, it just depends. If you feel like you're fine with the smaller size, and want to change the plates around, the N3DS does have Fire Emblem Fates plates you can buy online. I think I prefer the look of the XL though. I've been waiting for a mostly white XL to come out. *_*

The Fates XL also won't have the games pre-installed, though as someone who prefers physical copies to pre-installs or codes, I actually prefer that.

i have both. in my personal opinion the pros and cons for both are...

The 3DS XL

Pros:
big screen
loud speakers
hands dont cramp as easily

Cons:
to big to for easy travel
heavy to hold
screen can be hard to keep looking at for longer periods

New 3Ds

Pros :
easy to hold
customizable covers
easy to carry along

Cons:
smaller size can cramp hands
harder to read text compared to the XL

i prefer the The New 3ds.

The size of the screen doesn't make a huge difference to me. I also happen to prefer the matte, full-color button design of the 3DS.

I have the HHD N3DS and my hubs has the Hyrulian Gold N3DS XL. I've played both, and my personal preference lies with the smaller model.

My reasons are as follows:

I don't need a gigantor screen, and I like having a portable gaming system that is PORTABLE.

During my tenure with the 3DS XL model, my wrists starting to hurt like hell, so I think some carpal tunnel may have been starting.

Swappable coverplates. Kind of a minor issue, but I like having the option of giving my system a bit of a facelift every now and then.

Having the removable coverplates means the serial number is hidden underneath the top plate, which is beyond awesome as far as I'm concerned. Every DS I've ever had ended up with the clear plastic covering the number peeling off, so I'm glad that is an issue of the past. At least on that particular model. The XL doesn't have that luxury.

Really, it all boils down to which you'd prefer, but my vote lies with the smaller model.

Size matters.

I prefer the XL, i used to have a regular sized DSI, but after that i keep updating to the XL. I prefer the size, look, and overall feel of a larger 3DS. I have the original red New 3DS XL when it game out, and it's great. Every time i play with a DS that's not XL it feels tiny. I always get a protective cover with a design with my handhelds, so the special covers that the New 3DS has doesn't really matter since i would just have covered it anyways.
