Netflix Partnering w/Nintendo to Develop a Live Action "Legend of Zelda" Series?

Here's a link to the article: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2015/02/06/legend-of-zelda-netflix-series/

What are your thoughts on this? In my opinion I think it's a bad idea as I can't really imagine a live action Link. He has been mute for decades. Giving him a voice/actor just feels really weird. Also, Netflix has stated that this series is going to be "like Game of Thrones but for families." Hyrule does not have any rival families or politics involved, so that pitch is not great at all.

Well... this source doesn't seem to be very reliable. They don't have any evidence at all. No other sources. And a Nintendo spokesman refused to comment on "rumors or speculations."

Gooonnnnaaa have to say this isn't true. I doubt Nintendo would try to have another Zelda based TV-series, considering the failure of the one that exists already.

It's "reportedly" in early development, even if this was true, I doubt they would go through with it as the internet is negative on this speculation.

If they did, I'd love for them to base it off Skyward Sword. Simply because it's so translateable into TV world.

I mean, they'd still probably make Link a cocky ******* or an unassuming dork... (SS Link's dialogue had some super sassy choices.)

I honestly prefer the idea of a mute, humble Link, like how he was in Twilight Princess.

Agreed. Nintendo will very likely not green light this, especially a live action version that seems like it's trying too hard (Game of Thrones? Really?).

I wouldn't mind another cartoon, though.

It'll be hard to make it not hokey if you ask me. It feels like you can't make it serious even if it's suppose to be. But okay...

I'm sure anything will be better than the trashy cartoon of the Loz.

It apparently is a real thing too considering there are reliable news/entertainment sites discussing it's development (Wall Street Journal & Rolling Stones just to name two)

I have a baaaaaaaad idea about this....

At least it would be better than the 80's Zelda cartoon.

Almost feels like a planted "leak" to gauge public opinion.

If it ends up being a real thing, I'm cautiously optimistic, as they claim that they're working closely with Nintendo and specifically the Japanese creator of the Zelda series. If that's true, I would like to think they could steer it in a direction that might actually be interesting and if the creator himself is in on this, he's likely to guide things with his own input.

Frankly, I'm just pleased with the idea of a favorite game series from my childhood possibly slipping into mainstream media. There's a thousand things that could go wrong, sure, but just the fact that Nintendo is apparently encouraging this gives me hope for new animated features/series possibilities for all kinds of games later down the road. I totally watched The Super Mario Bros. Super Show back in the day. Imagine what they could do with Nintendo games in CGI and animation with how far it has come nowadays...

The youtube channel The Know posted a video about this.
It's not really confirmed 100%. They're talking about it. Nintendo will more than likely back out.

I hope they don't back out. Yeah, there's plenty of ways this could go terribly wrong, but I'm not going to let a fear that it might be bad get in the way of being excited. They just need to find someone who actually cares about these characters to do the show and I think they will. So I'm not too worried.

Also, if this does well, I'd love for them to do a animated series based around Toon Link too.

I honestly don't even think nintendo cares about their characters. If they turn it into something like game of thrones, that's one of the most watched series, people who don't play zelda will watch. And nintendo will be rolling in even more money.

I mean, is Zelda really that far off from Game of Thrones? I know they're not alike in more ways than they are, but if I were doing a show and needed to compare it to any current show, it'd be Game of Thrones. The popularity of Game of Thrones is exactly why Zelda would work as a TV show in this specific moment of time.

I think people are over-reacting to the GoT comparison. We're not going to see Zelda running around topless for no reason other than to exploit women or story-lines taking forever like on GoT. It's just going to be a show set in a world of castles and dragons.
