Need Help With Pokemon Soul Silver

I just bought Pokemon Soul Silver today, and I just battled the red haired boy I guess... I thought it was a girl, but whatever so I went back to New Bark Town, and the cop asked for the red-haired boys name... I didn't quite catch it, so does he have a name? Cause I Googled it and some one said "oh his name is Ethan" so I just told the cop his name was Ethan, not realizing that that was the name of my friend in the game... >_<

Is that OK? Should I re-start my game? Or what should I do? HELP! :'(

It just means that Red haired Kid (your rival) will now be referred to and called Ethan. It's nothing important, unless you don't want him to be called that.

His Real name is Silver but it doesn't matter what you name him.

It just means your rivals name is now Ethan.
and the internet lies, his name is Silver. but you can make it whatever you want.

As has been stated, his name is Silver. Ethan is the name of the male protagonist. You didn't miss a name at all, the game just calls Silver "Passerby Boy" when you first battle him because you have yet to name him. When the police asks for his name, that's when you make the name up! It can be anything you want, lol.
