A nice inbetween is cool to see. There are some path towns that are absolutely gorgeous and creating a natural town takes just as much work and dedication. I personally love using paths but I prefer using one main pattern because creating new characters would require me to do something imaginative with their house.
I don't have a preference. For mine, I'd rather keep it looking natural and not dump flowers or paths all over it, that would make my town look too busy.
I've found the right balance in my town. I really dislike towns that are covered in patterns, no matter how pretty they are. But bare towns are a bit boring and quickly turn to dirt patches.... I think it's best to limit pattern use to paths and custom design signs and leave the rest natural. Like fake grass I don't get, and stuff drawn on patterns to look like fences or whatever is also really weird to me.
I've made paths and stuff, but I still want there to be a lot of flowers and trees. Some towns that have a lot of patterns and PWPs and stuff can look good, but it's rare to see. I've been told a few times about what I can improve in my town, but I like having the in-between.
I like mine al natural bc im lazy as hell but I enjoy themed towns. my friend has a cool themed town named Compound thats sorta like set in a dystopian future
My town has one main path with some more "nature paths" leading to villager houses and the like. I don't like grass showing directly next to the nature paths because it looks strange to me so the majority of my town is flowers, trees and bushes. My train station area looks extremely artificial and I'm not sure what I'll be doing with it yet, I haven't found a nice path that will blend into the cobblestone. Same with my event plaza.
One of the biggest problems with my town is that I don't believe my map makes it possible to utilize the extra space for PWP properly. I'm sure if I rearrange all my flowers, I'll find a lot more space but my river is very...bendy? So it's hard to put PWP there without blocking bridges and Isabelle always tells me no haha.
Personally, I think that if you can use paths and tiles well and keep things appealing, then go for it! Hoewever, my town simply has a regular path to cover up grass wear and to link up areas that I often go to.
I like a bit of both, though I probably learn more towards "natural". I don't like the whole covered in patterns and super structured look, but if a town has zero paths or landscaping, well, that's a little boring. A balance between the two is my ideal, imo.
I like both styles of town design. As long as I see some kind of creative effort, whether that takes fake grass, fake water, dirt paths, etc- I will probably find something to like about the town.
My own town has fake grass and fake water, and I don't care if it doesn't look convincing to anyone else. I like it, so it stays.
I say to each their own. I initially had no intentions of laying down paths in my town when I first got the game, but once I started seeing how beautiful some towns were and started looking at paths myself I found the appeal in it. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to designing things so I am a bit obsessive with it, but all of my paths are usually connected, neat and purposeful. I also plant trees/bushes/flowers with specific purpose. I've seen some towns where the paths are very random and everywhere which may work for some people but for me I just like things to be neat. And that's what I've tried to do with my town. I liked my town before I decorated it, but when I walk through now I admire all of the work I've put into making it beautiful.
My town has paths leading around but thats it. It doesn't cover much of my town. I don't really use any thing else other than a path and this water mount by my house to make it look pretty xD
Other than paths, I pretty much cover my town in flowers and trees.
I like paths. What I've decided not to do ever - ever - again is to outline every path in straight hedges. ( The exception to that is the town of Misimu where the hedges define the season. ) With the first town I went a little hedge crazy and upon reflection I decided that I don't want to be herded down a line like a cow down the chute. I like a little less rigidity and a little more naturalness.
I enjoy seeing different styles, though I have to admit completely natural towns with random PWP placements feel a little awkward to navigate; while completely developed towns with all the ground covered by patterns and flowers could be a bit overwhelming.
Personally I like a balance between the two. My town has main paths that are 2 or 3 cells wide and semi-dirt paths dotted with single patterns for the rural feel. I also like showing natural grass where I can and most of my villagers have their own little garden/yard. I actually feel like my town is overdeveloped. ;-; However, at this point I don't know where to cut back down.
I like heavily designed towns, like they're really impressive to me because I absolutely would not be able to concetrate long enough to make that kind of effort myself. I couldn't handle having paths everywhere though, cuz like where would you drop stuff. @@ I have one big shoddy path to my Re-Tail and then sort of a fake grass border around my river's edge and that's it.
