Curious as to what others weigh in on this subject? Don't get me wrong I think the planned towns with design paths are beautiful, but I tend to lean towards a well planned simple country town feel. I personally like to get into the game to get away from real life flooded with urban sprawl and sidewalks and drift towards an ideal fantasy life. I threw this out there and feel free to discuss both approaches

I like towns with paths, but I think it's over-doing it when 90% of a town is paths. ^^;

I like a good balance like some ppl go overboard and there's literally no grass to be seen in their towns

I like for my town to have a balance.I like to design and put paths in my town but not so much to the point were there is no grass showing.

I think natural towns are nice, but extremely hard to maintain... I use a ton of paths because I hate seeing the ugly grass deterioration around my town sigh

I segment paths to the most heavily trafficked areas of my town, relying instead on trees to discourage me from other areas before snowfall. Going back to paths, what I mean for example: There is an area at the center north of my town, above the bridge, where villagers spend a lot of time, so I have a bushed up area surrounding a trellis as a feature and to encourage grass growth. To the right of that, there is a bench.

And to the left of this busy area I have a lengthy path (approx. 16 square across, forming a narrow z shape), surrounded by bushes, trees, flowers, a topiary, etc., meant to direct heavy traffic in visitors, villagers, and me to town hall, villager houses, the beach, and other features, while keeping the area looking lush. (This effort, by the way, is a haphazard work in progress, as you can see especially from the unfinished bushed up path, and the grass has only recently started regrowing around the trellis.)

Too long, didn't read: My town is mostly a mess, with a few tidy spots in high traffic areas.

For anyone who read this description only to wonder what the hell I'm talking about, feel free to take a look with my recently updated dream address: 5700-3570-3727.

I'm not gonna lie, my town is filled with paths I've made myself everywhere, including fake grass.
I do admire natural towns though. I'm going to make my 2nd town less developed in terms of paths~

I don't really like patterns as paths. Grass wear all the way! I'm trying to see what routes i usually take to go places and and use that for a basis for my paths. I think towns with patterns are cute (only for paths. not for grass. water is pretty cool).

I don't want to make any other character than my mayor so that was one factor in deciding paths or not.

I just really dislike fake grass. The game came with grass, cmon!!

Same...
I only made a little spot of "fake grass" at the top border of my water pattern since I didn't like it just being a straight drop off.

I do dislike it when the whole town is just covered in paths...
Like... come on now. It's ok if your grass is showing. >.>

In all honesty I like both. I like natural if it looks GOOD. If it looks like I just started up a new game of AC then it's a little boring..
I Love heavily patterned towns also because it is so much different than the starting game. I love experiencing different towns and how people can make a map that is so similar to someone else's game look a million times different.

I feel the same way. While I don't think I would ever want my entire town to be nothing but patterns I don't mind towns that are mostly patterns as long as it doesn't look a mess and it fits their town's theme.I've seen quite a few towns that have little to no grass showing that look great.

I like looking at heavily pathed/patterned towns. Some of them are really beautiful and inventive! But I could never be mayor in one, it's not really the vision I have for any of my towns. I want to have a more natural town, but I want it to be well-organized and visually appealing as well.

I'm currently finding that developing a town to look nice, yet natural, is somewhat difficult. .-. Nice fake grass is hard to find and buying clovers by the dozen is expeeeensive.

I agree with idea of balance. When I hear about towns where grass is entirely covered up, I think about those old homes where original brick walls or thick wood used to build ships were covered up and hidden. The grass is a lovely feature for a well-designed town. That said, I agree with the point above that it is not necessarily a 'bad' thing to cover up all the grass, only that oftentimes it feel unnecessary, like George Lucas making everything CGI in his latest Star Wars films. OK, enough analogies, promise.

My own main town is totally landscaped, so there's not much of a natural feel to it. My paths don't cover everything at all, but I love to make patterns with flowers, so I have those everywhere. It's more like a park, with a lot of large flowerbeds and PWP. My son likes the more natural feel, and told me "do not go crazy with the flowers!" So he has a more natural town with no paths, but flowers in strategic places. Here's what worked for that style for us: begin by getting your trees the way you want them. Orchards, etc. Then choose flower colors that look good with villagers' houses, and alternate two colors around their fences. Any place your grass has a natural bare spot, you can put a couple of shrubs with flowers sprinkled around them. Finally, I choose a flower color that looks good with a specific fruit tree and put one of those near each tree. It sounds like a lot of work, but it goes really fast and makes the town look organized even if you've just started. :) I don't have a dream address for him, but when I get it set up I'll post it in case anyone is interested! And of course anyone is welcome to visit my "overdone flower explosion" of a town, as my kid calls it! :p

yeah i don't like fake grass paths and don't understand the point because it looks so fake lol. i use paths in my town but just to show where to go if i have visitors (yeah right) and i think it looks nice but i'm not going to put paths everywhere. i want another copy so i can make a town with natural grass paths lol :3

I would love to be able to do a lot of paths in my town but I am so lazy. So I guess I like both. My town doesn't look to terrible grass-wear wise, but once it starts getting worse I'll probably put some more paths in. Right now I have paths going from my house, to the beach, then to the town hall and retail. Sounds like a lot but it really isn't.
