I was playing the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for the first time and my Wii U froze so I held the power button on my Gamepad but my console was still running so I had to unplug my system to get it to stop running and also keep in mind I was recording my gameplay with an Elgato HD so please let me know if my system is going to be OK. I really hope so!

That happened to me before. I just held the power button down on the console for a few seconds and it went off. It turned out to be fine after.

I'd take the power cord straight outta the console and leave it for a half hour or so.

That must of been scary, my wii u hasn't done that to me yet though.

This has happened to me countless times on a majority of my consoles (360, Wii, 3DS, DSi, GCN).

Just hold the power button for 10 - 30 secs. When a game freezes, the console usually takes longer to shutdown when pressed. After that, I simply turn it back on, everything's fine again.

It should not be a problem at all, if it happens just hold the power button of the console for about 5 seconds and it should force a shut down. No problems should show up afterwards except for that you lost your progress of the race.

It is pretty normal for consoles to freeze if you play third party games, those aren't very polished most of the time.
Next time your Wii U freezes just restart, it is not a big deal :)
