my pc is realy slow

i found a computer in my atic today, its only a year old but when i started it up it was slow as hell, it took half an hour to load up the internet, can you suggest annything to make it faster?

Go to task manager and go into Processes then find explorer.exe and click on it then click end process. It's a pointless think which takes up LOADS of space.
