It's been 2 or 3 weeks ago, that my DSi's R button began to act more and more irresponsive. Now, I have to blow the R button in every 30 seconds or so in order to temporairly get my R button working. I wouldn't be able to play some games properly, like attempting to snake in Mario Kart DS. So far, my two previous DSes (Original DS and DS Lite) still have their shoulder buttons functional.

I'm pondering about sending my DSi to Nintendo's repair center. My biggest concern about that: Will they have to replace my DSi, or they'll fix my R button out?
If they opt for replacing my whole DSi, would I lose my 3100 DSi points worth of DSiWares? I heard we can't transfer DSiWare from DSi to DSi XL and vice versa, but I'm not sure when it comes to get my portable console replaced straight from Nintendo repair center. Luckily, it still have its warranty, because I owned it less than a year.

First of all, are you putting your DSi in your pocket a lot without a case? That can cause the should buttons to wear out because if your DSi is in your pocket without a case protecting it, the shoulder buttons are constantly being pressed down by the inside of your pocket. That's why I always keep my DSi XL in a case at all times, even when in my pocket (and, yes, I can fit a DSi XL in a full protective case in my pants pocket just fine).

About the repair, if you're unsure, you could always call Nintendo. I'm pretty sure that they'll repair your current DSi instead of replacing it. They usually always repair the console you send in rather than replacing it, unless the console is beyond repair, which your DSi is not. And I'm positive that all of your DSiWare will remain intact. You have nothing to worry about.

3100 points? o_0 You have a lot! :3

But yea... I don't think they'll replace it... even if they format system memory... the shop account won't get deleted (I read the instruction booklet x3)

Lol, faulty hardware. Looks like the trend of cashing-in has affected the quality of Nintendo's products.

Hmm... Your answers are all plausible for me. Yet the R button were pressed, because I often slip my DSi to my pockets, I could also tell that prolonged intense gaming session involving mostly with shoulder buttons could do the same effect. Those buttons could be more resistant than they're actually. From now, I'll refrain myself to put my DSi in my pockets as much as possible.

Well, I'll try contacting it to NOA whenever I can. That's promising, hehe!

I use my shoulder buttons fairly frequently, and I've never had any problems with them. Well, my original DS's shoulder buttons did stop working, but the whole system was worn out by then. I've had no problems with any of my DS Lites, my DSi, or my DSi XL. Though, my DSi's L button stopped working one time, but I found that it was because there was a crumb or something lodged in the crack that was making it not work. Blowing on it fixed it right up, lol.

Sorry for the minor bump, but I'd like to tell the outcome.

Seeing a new serial number for my DSi in my Nintendo.com's Repair Status Lookup, Nintendo apparantly replaced my whole DSi, just for my badly working R button. There goes my 31$ worth of DSiWares in the trash. >_<
At least, most of them are those I don't mind losing them. As long as I get that DSi before 11th June 2010, I could re-download Photo Dojo, yet I'll have to beat it again.
In return, I could earn another 160 Club Nintendo coins (it wasn't my purpose).

Maybe I'll get further information whenever I get it.

They replaced it completely for one button? o_0

Well... at least you can play WW now! ^.^ (if you have it...:P)

*No scratches yet... Hope to keep it up... x3

You at least get the games back right? And the points?

I don't think you do.

So, I got my DSi replacement today, and noticed that my datas were intact, therefore keeping my previously downloaded DSiWares. I haven't checked if my photos are still there, but I'm confident that everything were transferred, but the brightness setting.

Glad I got everything back (or most)!

I don't think I've ever had a problem with my DS shoulder buttons. The shoulder buttons on my Gameboy Advance SP did break, but I think that was just because I dropped it :P

Well, that's great! Also, you know you can easily change the brightness level at any time by pressing Select and turning the Volume switch up or down, right?
