A lot of people on these forums have multiple cartridges of the game, since at several points they were really cheap to buy, all things considered. I have several myself, but I think most reasonable people only have two!

I have two physical copies. One is the original game from 2013 and the other one has the Welcome Amiibo update inside the cartridge. Getting the second copy helped motivate me to play again. (I was on a 3-4 year long hiatus)
Yup! I have two myself. My main town is my hard copy, and my second town is soft copy. And the above users are right, getting new copies are much cheaper now!
Yes, count me as a multiple cartridge owner. Actually, I bought two at launch because my wife wanted to play too. She has since stopped playing, but before she did, I found a cheap used copy for my third cartridge. And, finally, once the welcome amiibo cartridge came out, I found a cheap copy of it and figured why not. So, that makes 4 copies total....just don’t ask me how many 3ds systems I have. Yes, I have a problem.
if i were to make a suggestion if you want more than one copy, having a digital copy and a physical copy is really nice because then you don't have to switch catridges around and maybe lose one
I have three physical copies.
Though it didn't start out that way.
Originally, I just had PPUVilla, but then because my best friend and husband(fiance at the time) had been playing longer, I kept getting slammed with rejects from their towns that they didn't want.
I got annoyed and decided to get a second copy with the sole purpose of clearing their voids so I could actually have a chance to get villagers I wanted. And my plan worked, making the game fun for me again.
The 2nd town eventually became full of dreamies, too.
Then, recently, my best friend got back into New Leaf and convinced me to create a new town, but I love my old towns too much to restart so my hubby gave me his extra cartridge for my third town since he doesn't really play anymore.
I have a new 3ds XL and a regular 3ds, though, so it helps a little with distinguishing cartridges. (And also if I need to visit myself for stuff like petitions, lol)
I have two cartridges, I play the first on my original 3DS and I picked up a refurbished original 2DS to play the second town on, so I can visit back and forth. Sorta wish I'd just paid the extra few dollars for a new 2DS because the screen's pretty scratched, so dragging stuff around is a pain.
