Multiple copies of NL on the same 3DS

This has probably been addressed but I want to be sure.

If I play 2 copies of New Leaf on the same console, will I have 2 different towns? I don't want to start a second copy of the game and overwrite my first town. To be clear, it's 2 physical copies, not a digital download.

The game is saved on the cartridge! So yes, two different games!

I would know this works as i have 2 cartridge games on 1 3ds
