Moving the date forward while keeping tree growth

Has there ever been a sure way to do this, outside playing for a tiny bit on a "new" day, then skipping the date ahead?

I believe I'm still in winter 2015-2016, so while I'd love to be able to play on the current date, it was still a fairly new town when I stopped playing and I'd like to be able to reflect the progress (if fake, heh) at least in the tree.
I have a lot of region exclusive DLC I've acquired through trades that I don't really want to lose through a full reset to just skip to the current day. :c

I always thought the trees growth depended on how many hours you've played rather than days, but idk man.
