Moving out process

How soon will an empty plot of land be sold when a villagers leaves, is it random? When someone leaves will there always be one day between the empty plot before it's sold?

So the first day someone decides to leave, the next they will be in boxes, the day after that will there always be an empty plot of unsold land? Of is it possible for it to be sold immediatly the day after the villager has left?

I dont believe it can be sold right after a villager leaves. So you'll always have that day of wiggle room to island hop or try to pick someone up from another island
