Moving a non-mayor character to a new town

In NL/WA there is now the option to move a non-mayor character from you main town into a completely new town without a save file. This non-mayor character will now become mayor of the new town, and have all their belongings, storage, and their house transferred over to the new town.
Have any of you ever done this before successfully? If so, how did it work? I only found a couple articles about it online and they aren?t very descriptive. It looks like you also can?t plot reset with that option.. so you?ll have to choose from the four plot option towns that they give you?
Im debating on this, but I am picky about my towns and worried that I?ll lose my character altogether if I don?t like the town options I?m given.

I?m thinking this is what I?m going to do just so I don?t have to rebuild my storage items. However, is the resetting easy? Like, if I select that I want the character to move in to a new town, and they get transferred to the new 3DS but I don?t like the town plots that I?m given, do I need to do the whole move in process over again? It seems like it might be time consuming

It was over five years ago but from what I remember once your character is transferred to the new town on the second cartridge,it's just like any new town startup.I found this video to refresh my memory:
