Most Overrated and Underrated Games

You guys should at least explain your opinion! Pokemon while the main game is pretty damn simple, unfortunately, has an incredible online community that is pretty hardcore at times.

Everyone hypes it up to be this "must play" game and that "you'll never get bored of it" but I know enough people that got tired after playing one game. I have no motivation to continue it.

You guys need to play some good JRPG's. Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Vagrant Story, Earthbound...come on guys.



I think a lot of people would agree with those three. Golden Sun on the GBA is incredible but the sequels don't come close to it and you'll find a lot of hate for it. Camelot makes some great games Nintendo! Put them to work!

I haven't played enough games to know what's overrated, but Okami is def. underrated!! the plot, art, and gameplay are all so so good omg

Overrated: 1st Gen Pokemon games. There are so many people just worshipping it, and while the Pokemon were pretty good I guess, I HATED first gen. I hadn't played it until recently with a LeafGreen emulator, and ugh. I always got so bored so quickly. MONKEY the Primeape was the only thing that kept me going.

Underrated: Kirby Canvas Curse. Being the first game I ever played on DS, it got me to love Kirby. There are only a few of my friends that even know it exists. It's a great game, and the ball mechanic is really good. The only part that's bad is the level spECTACLE SPACE GOD IT MAKES ME WANT TO RIP MY HAIR OUT

Overrated: A link to the past. Not that good as its praised to be.
Underrated: Super paper mario. Still underrated, still really fun.

I used to think sunshine was underrated, but not anymore. I do like m64 more than it now, but that might change.

I feel that Super Paper Mario is severely underrated. People hated it for getting rid of the turn-based combat, but I felt the faster pacing of real time combat better suited the series. The story and humor were top-notch, and the gameplay was great if you could get over this insignificant change.

I can agree with the Portals.. They are really good but there are better.

TF2 yes, Garry's Mod can be okay imo

Overrated? I'd have to say The Last of Us. While the games story seemed good, and I definitely enjoyed watching it, the game just seemed to be a hype train disaster at the end of it, with bad programming causing some serious issues for some of the people that bought the game being unable to play it. (It was infamous for YLOD'ing the older PS3's.)

Underrated? Drakengard. Won't go into it. Don't have all day.

Underrated Games : Ghost Trick : Phantom Detective for the DS. It's a very cool puzzle game. Very underrated too.
Rune Factory series. Seriously needs more attention

Underrated, or rather unrated (old PS1 game that didn't sell well) game is Tomba and Tomba2. I had so much fun playing those games when I was younger. I still have them.

If I were to pick one of the most overrated games, it would be Super Mario Kart. Don't get me wrong, it's actually a good game and has merits of actually starting the entire Mario Kart franchise. It just didn't aged quite well. The graphics were average at best (they could've done better even back then), the CPU players ruthlessly cheat as much as they want especially after 100cc just because of the poor AI programming because the technology just wasn't there at that moment, the kart movement tends to be as slippery as a freaking soap even with the racers who have the best handling and the tracks are too tight! These factors (except the graphics) are actually what made the game obnoxiously difficult. This is one of the games I wouldn't hesitate to abuse save states just to complete this game.

As for the underrated game, I believe that everybody should play Drill Dozer (Screw Breaker in Europe). It's a Game Boy Advance platforming game that uses the drill mechanics in many clever ways. I genuinely had fun playing it a bit after it was released. And interestingly, this was made by Game Freak, the company that made many Pok?mon games to date. If this ever get released on Wii U VC, you should go ahead and spend 8 bucks for that underrated classic and see what the fuzz is about!

Pokemon mystery dungeon is highly underated. the storyline was well handled(except for gates to infinity), and character development was amazing. I enjoy them more than some of the main series games.

I believe Skyrim is highly overated. It's only reason for success is because of internet hype and fanboys. It overshadows sooo many superior games

I'd say the Paper Mario series, sans Sticker Star (it was a truly ****ty game that ruined the franchise) is very underrated. I loved TTYD and SPM, the storyline of both games were absolutely amazing and the music. TTYD is basically my fav game ever. Ahh, the music of SPM has some of my favorite video game music EVER. Google "Super Paper Mario: Memory", it's such a peaceful, but at the same time creepy sounding song. ~_~

Overrated? Can't really pick a game I know of that's overrated. Maybe the platform mario games, the ones that have been the same for years now.
