So, I have a few questions in regards to planting money trees with the golden shovel. First off, does a money tree hold the same color as a normal sapling? Or does it remain dark like a fruit tree? Also, how many money trees can be growing at once? I wish to ultimately replace the purchasing of saplings for the growing of money trees. This is actually not even from an economical standpoint, but just because it is a pain in the bells to purchase them one day at a time from the store.

In the event that multiple can be growing at once, is the percentage of money actually growing on the trees a percent based off the amount of bells you plant? I heard that this was rumored to be the how the game calculates if the bells will grow or not (every 1,000 counting as 1%). Thank you for any and all info on this matter.

Money trees are the same shade as regular trees (so they also turn pink in the spring).
You can have as many money trees growing as you want, as long as there is actually enough room for a tree in that spot.
If you manage to grow a money tree, it will always have three bags of 30k. (I think. Not sure on this one though!)
Yes, the 1,000 = 1% is correct. So you obviously have the highest chance to grow them if you bury 99k bags.
If you bury 1k for example, there is a 1% chance it'll be a money tree and a 99% chance it'll be a normal sapling.

Here's some more info.

Wow, thank you for all the info! Just thought I'd check up on this because I am only mostly familiar with the Gamecube version. Since, the glowy spots are no longer in the game, I was like, "Welp, better ask people some unspecified info!" I'll read through all that stuff and if I have any more questions, I'll be sure to ask. ^-^

Alright, so, I just looked it up and it appears to me that the leave are indeed darker on a money tree. I could be potentially wrong, but the picture on the site shows a bell tree with a peach tree near by. As far as I can tell, they have the same, darker coloration to them. Not that I would complain about having some darker trees, but I just need to verify what is truly the case.

Here is the picture of the trees.

Probably because it is considered a "fruit" tree at the moment (the bags of money are the "fruit"), and when you shake the "fruit" off the tree it will become a normal tree again.

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure and couldn't exactly prove it. Well, guess I should just hop on and test it myself! Either way, I am looking to make a lot of trees. Thanks for the help, all. My new golden shovel and I have a lot of work to do.

No, they are not considered fruit trees at any time. They always have the same coloring as a normal tree.

The image you showed was taken during summer, when all fruit and normal trees look nearly identical anyway.

The two tree types (fruit and normal) are not always different shades. During some times of the year they look like the same color. This guide has clear pictures of that if you'd like to see. :3

Thanks again for all of your help, Dewy! You are super awesome. :3 One last question, though! The information on the money tree link you sent me claims, "The ability to grow trees from money is tremendously useful in dealing with excessive deforestation, possibly caused by the player due to inconvenient tree placement. With 10,000 Bells, over 100 trees can be planted in one day. Although slightly more expensive than purchasing saplings from Tom Nook, it is much quicker." Is this just an inaccuracy to the site? I can only get a sapling to form if I use 1000 bells, not 100. Either their math is wrong, there is a typo, or I am doing something incorrectly. With an answer to this, I believe I should have everything covered in terms of trees. :)

That website covers all the Animal Crossing games so far, not just New Leaf. If I remember correctly, in past AC games (definitely Wild World at least) you could grow a tree with a golden shovel and as little as 100 bells. So it's not a typo, it just didn't specify which game it was referring to.

But you're right that in New Leaf you need to bury at least 1,000 bells for a tree to grow c:
