Money rock trick not working on same day I become mayor?

I don't know if its part of the game or if I am literally missing the last rock that I need to hit to trigger it, but I am pretty certain I have hit every rock TWICE, I moved into my new town of Rookedge today, and I can't find the money rock anywhere, do I need to wait until tomorrow, I found the gem rock easily enough but alas no money rock yet. Any advice/help is much appreciated, even if I have owned the game for over a year lol, always learning new things about NL

Yes I've found it too in the past but for some strange reason I can't find it oh well, I'll get it tomorrow

Leave a hole or place a tile next to each rock after you hit it. I've had to do that in new towns because I couldn't find the money rock either, turned out that I was skipping one thinking I had already done it.

This is what I normally do. Makes things a lot easier, especially in a new town where I'm not sure of my layout yet.

Well, I started my Cycle Town yesterday and I definitely had a money rock. Just for the 'first day' confirmation.
