I was trading with someone from another country and they said that my mayor didnt look like a girl and that I should wear more girly clothes on my mayor. I was utterly confused and didn't know what to do. It wasn't anyone from TBT, don't worry, but I just thought it was an interesting topic. If you have a female mayor does it have to look girl and wear dresses, same with male mayors, do they have to look masculine? To me I think that anyone should be able to wear that ever the feck they want. smh

Just wear whatever you want. If someone really cares, then you probably don't want to be around that person anyway. Although I'll say that people who wear completely random and uncoordinated outfits kinda bother me. It's just so distracting to look at.

That's weird. I've only traded on tbt and we literally just say things like hi and thanks lol

Both of my mayors are boys, and Tadfield has two male alts. I put them all in more feminine outfits from time to time because they look cute af. Hell, one of my male alts, Fox, currently has purple hair. I do dress my female alt in super girly things but that's only because that's the personality I gave her. She's an OC of sorts.

My person is all blue too and I'm like I probably look crazy to some people but it's an avatar basically.

I'm a guy who plays a male mayor, and I like wearing feminine clothes in-game! The designs for dresses and skirts are really cute.

Do whatever you want!! You and your mayor don't have to live by gender roles or whatevs.

For some reason people become uncomfortable when they can't determine a person's gender. If its super-duper important to you to make people feel comfortable, play up the femininity of your mayor.

Otherwise, I really wouldn't sweat it. I hate to sound like a terrible person, but in the grand scheme of things who cares? My favourite part of Animal Crossing is being able to play in whatever way makes ME happy (except of course when it comes to things like trades and online play where you need to be fair and considerate). Do whatever will make YOU happy.

My mayor looks like a girl because my favourite colour is pink, I have a soft spot for bows, and its how I would like to dress if I wasn't worried about looking like a little kid, but there are no hard and fast rules about how your mayor must look. I see it as one of those fantasy avatar elements. I'll probably never wear a dress like the waitress dress in real life, but in this game I can so I will!

I just dress my mayor in whatever I want. I want her to be Red Riding Hood? Done. Santa outfit? Why not?
My mayor mostly wears dresses or something feminine, but that's because I like it.

I think it's fine to wear and dress how ever you like, as long as it's respecting yourself and others. But for sure, some will tell you what should be this and what should be that way, it all comes to yourself on whether to follow it or not. I mean can't blame a lot of anything because the formation is just from being brought up a certain way and the typical stereotypes.. Dooon't think too much on it, because the important part is how you look at yourself and what you enjoy about it.

Last night I met a player who had a male avatar and wore female clothes, and he complained people were criticizing him for wearing female clothes, you really shouldn't be put down for doing something the game developers intentionally put in.

yes, you should dress a little bit more feminine if you like the feminine clothes. If you are tomboyish and you don't like girly clothes, then you dress however you like to! Though, if your a boy, don't go and wear stockings, dresses and skirts or else people will comment negatively. (●?ω`●)

Basically wear what you want regardless of what anyone says, even if it's just a game. Dudes can wear dresses, girls can wear tuxes, etc. As the snooties always say, it's 2015! Deal with it! B)

there will always be people who take gender roles too seriously. i'd just ignore them. my mayor has a girly look, but that's just my personal aesthetic.

A lot of the reasoning behind why they said that has a lot to do with gender roles. As Americans/ Canadians our restrictions and judgement towards self expression is a lot less vocal when comparing to other countries. In a lot of countries it's uncommon for females to dress more casually or tom boyish and the same for men dressing more feminine, it's just how they were rasied to think mostly. At the end of the day you should do what you happy and don't worry about what other people think, don't ever let someone tell you to act a certain way if you are being yourself.

My mayor mixes it up. I love the worn-out jeans and I wear them a lot in the fall and winter months. I also love the pretty dresses in the summer. Even if your mayor has a boyish hairstyle, it should be obvious she's a girl by her eyes. There are plenty of pretty, feminine-looking women in the real world with short hair and pants. Women that no one would say "isn't girly enough." It's doubtful you'll see this person again, anyway, so don't worry about their lame opinion.
