Do you mean switch lite? If so, mario party requires joycons. (You can choose to buy joycons and pair them with the switch lite but as you can't play the switch lite on TV you'll be looking at a very small screen so I don't think it would be worth it to be honest :s)

You're in luck though as Nintendo announced a price drop on joy cons I believe last year. Probably to get rid of their excess stock before the eventual release of the Switch Pro XD. Still, you can always send them to Nintendo if they do break down and get them replaced/fixed for only the cost of standard shipping and handling but the replacements will be whatever models you sent in as well as the same color(s).
