Mario Kart Wii: Still good or bad?

After basically my last session of Mario Kart Wii online before May 20th, I thought maybe I'd end it in victory and praise it for how much fun it was while it lasted. Not a chance. It wasn't fun, not even a tiny bit. I was ready to play and have the most fun I could experience. Maybe it's the fact that I've played it too long over the years to enjoy it anymore. I don't know, but I sure wasn't excited during the first race. Knowing this was the last time I had to play, I tried to be pumped, but that didn't help.

Starting off with Coconut Mall and getting 4th place and the victory music made me happy, until I still lost points. Everyone knows this game is fueled on luck, which is something I don't have. The second race, Rainbow Road, went from 1st to 6th in two seconds. Lost more points, and went on to third race. I did get the lead on Maple Treeway and kept it, even lapping someone at the end. But that was pretty much the only fun moment. Fourth race, Coconut Mall AGAIN.

That's another problem with the choosing of the race. A lot of time it just keeps going and then a track we've already played a race ago is picked. The fifth was the one I chose, DK Mountain. Got 4th, and gained 2 points. I ended after that.

Then I went onto Battle. Only five players, and I get stuck with the shortage of players on my team, so Delfino Pier is picked (yay!) and we start. Of course they end up way above us, but right before the match ends, I get disconnected.

I shut the game off after that. Even now, MKWii still frustrates me to the end. I had fun from 2008-2011. What happened? I've gotten to hate the game so much and I wish I didn't, but it was nothing but anger for a whole hour.

Maybe my brain is just too prepared to move on to Mario Kart 8, which I'm super excited for!

How many of you have always had a blast with this game?

I love the game. Mostly played offline with my cousins anyways but heck it's still one of the better ones. 64 will always be love though. Wish I still had it....

I really loved this game, but now I'm quitting it. I played my last few races this morning before going to a dentist appointment, then while I was there they pulled the plug.

It's my favorite. I got triple stars on EVERY cup (took me about a year because I'm not very good at 150cc and I ragequit a lot). I never seemed to go into online mode too much, though.

I still love the game... maybe because I stuck with it for all of this time. I don't really like the addition of the coins that MK7 and 8 have (and apparently they plague the player in 1st on MK8) and I got so used to the courses so I don't even mind the more lackluster of the bunch. Of course, the game is now clearly showing its age but it's definitely one of my favorites.

I consider Mario Kart Wii to be one of the worst in the series. Between the poorly-implemented motion controls, lackluster selection of tracks (though Koopa Cape and Maple Treeway were pretty awesome) and only housing slight graphical improvements over Double Dash, I was let down. On top of this they took out my favorite features from previous games. There was no 2 player option for grand prix, no double dash mode, battle mode was changed from lives to points, and the mission structure that added meat to the single player was gone. It was incredibly unbalanced as well; even for Mario Kart standards. Good luck not getting hit by a blue shell during the last five seconds of a race! Fortunately, when I tried Mario Kart 8 at Gamestop I only encountered 1 blue shell in 3 races and Lakita puts you back in the game much faster now.
