So I figured some of you played both, I was wondering what the general consensus or which one is better. Some things I won't really take into factoring is online play, (I only want Mario Kart for friends at home) and better graphics or stuff like that.

So which one should I get based on the info I've given?

If you aren't bothered by playing online, I'd say go with N64.
I'm sure you'd have as much fun as you would with the Wii version, I mean... it's Mario Kart!

Yeah, Mario Kart is best played in a group of people I think.

There's also the fact Mario Kart 64 is 40 bucks cheaper.

Wii for the endless online possibilities, 64 if you're a single player person.

I'd rather take Mario Kart 64 over Mario Kart Wii.

In the Wii version, the item spawning in Grand Prix and in Wi-Fi mode can get very annoying, point that it become lot more about luck than skill. Remember how dreaded were the CPUs in 150cc and Mirror Cup in Grand Prix? Well, how about being hit repeatedly by chained items, such as blue shell, then red shell, then another red shell, and so on? I'm not kidding. If I bought it then get through of it, I would break my Wii from my frustration! I also personally feel that the VR system became a kind of mess, thanks to the unfair item settings. 12 racers in both mode actually did the dirty job of bad item spawning settings, which didn't incited me to buy this.

Mario Kart 64 obviously lack Wi-Fi, but the item setting in this game make the game lot more skill-wise. CPUs never gets Blue Shell, and they appear less frequently throughout the multiplayer mode. Heck, Super Mario Kart doesn't have the blue shell! :P

I think eventually I'll buy the DS version anyway just because the thought of portable Mario Kart is very nice.

64 because I enjoyed the local multiplayer better then the online. The overall simplicity and no unbalanced Kart Combos.

Nothing can beat turning into a bomb and chasing your brother and cousin, while they scream like little girls.

So MK64(:

I LOVVVEEEEEEDDDDDD 64 my fav one wii is good if you wanna play online definitly go with wii unless you wanna play with friends then 64 is the way to go (btw doubledash was also good but not as good as 64 ;) )
