Marina plans to leave in 5 days, but I have no problem TTing her out.
This is crossposted over at Reddit.

How we're doing this:

You must be comfortable with paying me (at my town) before adopting Marina. I'll accept crowns--otherwise I will put seashells for sale at my Re-Tail for 999,999 each. Please walk back and forth between Re-Tail and the Post Office ATM only. Please do not roam elsewhere or I will get suspicious and flip my Wi-Fi switch off. Before doing anything, you're welcome to check and make sure Marina is in boxes, but please do not talk to her until payment is complete, or I'll flip my Wi-Fi switch off.

I'm sorry but, 15 million is far too much for a villager. I'm not sure you'll see many offers posted here. I would myself, but I can only dream of having more than 2 million bells. XD

I appreciate your concern, but I can always try another time if no one bids. c: I've seen several Marinas go for 15mil+, so I'm sure I'm not being unrealistic...

It's a bit odd to have the staring bid as high as 15 million though.

I don't see how this is such an issue that it warrants comments? It's a little rude to judge someone's prices. It's their business and their choice.

zero wifi rating, sorry, won't feel comfortable paying you first.

I JUST became active on this forum, so I have to start somewhere with the Wi-Fi ratings. Also, I clearly stated that you're more than welcome to validate that Marina is in boxes before doing anything. I'm trying to make this fair for both parties involved. If you're still uncomfortable, feel free to look elsewhere. I don't mind.

Nobody's trying to be mean, we're just trying to help you and give you advice. That way it'll be much easier for you to find a buyer.

And with the wifi ratings; we all know you have to start somewhere, it's just 15mil (or however much she goes for) is alot to trust someone with on your first go.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

Wasn't trying to be rude in any way but was just offering some friendly advice. :)

15 is a bit high for a starting bid. start with around like 2million and let people bid off of there.

You responded exceptionally defensively to what was friendly advice from people who've been on this forum quite a bit longer than you have. Instead of heeding it or even conceding that they might have a point that a person with an account barely a week old wants to start a 15mil bid for an auction for a highly coveted villager while she has zero wifi rating and no other transactions and less than 10 posts in general might want to back it down a bit.

Yes, we all have to start somewhere. But that somewhere is not a ridiculous starting bid on a villager without having first built any reputation whatsoever.

Agree with tardis and if I were you I would keep an eye on people's wifi rating and if they are high let them pick up the villager first. That is how you gain trust/reputation. Just some advice

With all due respect, comments such as "15mil is far too much" and "zero wifi rating, sorry" are not "friendly advice". On the contrary, I found the latter a little condescending. Furthermore, I never stated that people were being mean--just that it's rude to judge someone's prices.

Please don't patronize me by telling me to "back it down a bit" because I have "a ridiculous starting bid" and am "without ... any reputation whatsoever". My account may be barely a week old, but I am old enough to recognize and have zero tolerance for snide and tasteless remarks such as yours.

I do appreciate a few of the comments here, though, and I will consider lowering the starting bid to 10mil if a second try calls for it. In the end, though, I hope that people will respect the fact that Marina is MY villager to sell/auction. If you have advice for me, feel free to PM me. Otherwise, please keep your posts on-topic.

Wow :o people are only trying to HELP you............
I doubt it that you will sell her if you keep acting this way to people who know what they are talking about because they know this forum, the unwritten rules and the members on it.
But good luck with the auction anyway

People were thrown off by your extremely high starting bid. Usually, a starting bid is a 100k, 500k or a million. 2 million is also quite rare even when we're talking about popular villagers so imagine 15 million.
People have gotten scammed in the past so a post which has the starting bid of 15 million from a new poster with no wi-fi rating does come off as a bit suspicious - that is all.
But, ultimately, it is YOUR choice.

I started off not long ago myself on this forum, by the way.

You are obviously not open to discussion. In future, however, I would ask that if you are going to quote me in a response, please try to quote the things I actually said without editorial additions.

I already stated that I appreciate some of the comments here, and that I would consider lowering the starting bid...?
Why are my prices so troubling to some of you, that you feel the need to carry on a debate over them? I'm well aware that 15mil is a steep price, but she's MY villager. If the auction doesn't work out, then I'll either 1) try something different or 2) keep her.

I saw. We signed up on the same day! :P
I don't doubt that people have been scammed. I was scammed once myself, hence all the precautions. Honestly, I wasn't expecting people to bid, let alone argue over the price. I expected people to leave this alone if they didn't like anything they saw. Someone just sold their Marina (on auction; starting bid was 10mil) for 15mil around here... so I don't understand why I'm getting so much

They're not "editorial additions". The ellipsis is there for a reason; I didn't just throw it in there willy nilly.

But if people will just "leave it alone" then how will you grow into this forum and learn how people think/feel/react to things? Maybe you don't feel the need to do that, that is up to you ofcourse but that is also a reason why people react on things. And sure, she is your villager, nobody says she isn't and you are totally allowed to do with her whatever you want but it just seems you are so defensive to people who A. want to help you so the chance you sell her will get higher and B. Want to let you know how things on this forum work and I see nothing wrong with either of these things...

I'm going to lock this thread and recommend the OP remake their auction as this now off-topic.

However, I'd like to point out two things:
1. If you think someone's starting bid is too high...don't bid. It's honestly up to the person auctioning. If nobody bids? There's the hint that it may be too high, but there is NO REASON to come in and start criticizing someone's starting bid. That is no better than posting in someone's shop thread and saying their villager or item isn't worth it or criticizing someone's thread rules.

2. That said, if people are trying to help you, even if you disagree you should always be respectful and respond nicely. Similarly, if someone doesn't want your help, there's no reason to be upset. Just be respectful to one another and expect others' opinions and suggestions. There can be discussion without insulting.
