Maine legalizes gay marriage

And like dominoes they fall... about time. We're a couple of decades behind some European countries, but hey, as long as we get there at all...

That's fantastic, it really is. I'm happy to hear it.

Like Bul said, it's about time.

Let's just hope it doesn't take too long for the rest of the states to follow suit.

Government shouldn't define or regulate marriage. They're just changing stuff around. Reorganizing it. But they still intervene and regulate.

Government also shouldn't regulate business as it fails at such.

More equality I guess.

It's amazing! We're finally DOING somthing right as a country! I had my dobuts after Calafornia, but we have 5 states now! Only 45 to go!

Also, apparently Washington D.C. has also legalized gay marrage! The votes were 9 to 1. (if i misspelled anything it is because i'm on my cell phone and i don't usually check my spelling on here.)

Government shouldn't regulate anything. Governments are the most destructive organizations in the world.

Nah, it's not right until their power over people is completely abolished.

It's funny, Government was made for the people yet this occurs.
Freedoms begin to die as government gets more control.

Well, I suppose the gay population of Maine should be happy. All... like... 4 of them. Seriously, does anyone really even live in Maine?

I'm frankly shocked to see anywhere legalize gay marriage. It's bad business! Don't they realize how many tax dollars are reaped from the narrow-minded definition of marriage that the IRS has come to know and love.

Seriously, though, I suppose this is a step in the right direction. A tiny, tottering, baby step... but a step nonetheless. I still don't understand why the government needs to define marriage. The only reason I can think of, as eluded to before, is for income tax filing status. Otherwise, the whole topic really seems to be none of the government's damn business.

I married my husband through common law. It's pretty similar, you get to say you're married and use it to your income tax benefit (hopefully). Look it up, it's the almost-eradicated coolest way to be legally one.

OK, Storm, I understand that it's part of the libertarian ideology to be against the government, no matter what, as long as it continues to regulate, but I don't see how this is a bad thing. Let's face it. We're never going to have an anarchy here in the U.S., so the government is always going to exist in some form, and it is always going to attempt to regulate. And I prefer this sort of regulation to outlawing gay marriage, you know what I mean?

ew i can't even believe what im reading! gay marriage is disgusting and wrong! Marriage was NEVER supposed to be for a man and man and a girl and a girl! its SOOO gross! its not the way we are made! i don't see why ANYONE would think that legalizing gay marriage is a good thing. its GROSS and WRONG

Less government = better country.

I think it would be better if it were just a law saying it was up to the people. If they want to have a gay marriage, so be it. But the govt. shouldn't have to regulate people's decisions. There goes our free will out the window.

Sorry for the double post :(

You do realize that nothing is wrong with gays and lesbians being in love, don't you? Two people, in love, LOVE being the keyword, something that can withstand all barriers and break down any walls. So if you want to stand in the way of love, be my guest.

hmm.. thats odd.
i have an advertisement about gay marriage under this topic. lol

This isn't a regulation, per say, though. A regulation would be telling someone NOT to do something... this instead gives people the freedom to marry whomever they choose. What's the problem?
