Looking for troubleshooting help from an HHA Theme Veteran

The Mission: To get all of the HHA Theme Challenge Rewards.

The Background Information:

I have selected "Rustic" as my theme.

I have been using Thonky's Guide (which seems to be one of the most popular results for AC:NL questions) and have 74 unique items in my house that are logged as rustic themed. There are at least 10 unique rustic items in every room of my house.

There are no items in my house that are not rustic themed.

My exterior is perfectly rustic themed and Lyle says so every day.

All interior rooms have Rustic themed walls and floors as well.

I have the complete exotic set all located in a single room.

The Problem:

Lyle says my exterior is perfect, but my interior shows little rustic theme.

That means that every day that passes I talk to Lyle and raise my blood pressure that much more.
My house is -empty- if you took out all of the rustic themed items I've crammed in there.

So, I am looking for some HHA Veteran who understands how this system works to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Lay it on me, Bell Tree Forums... what am I doing wrong?

Thonky's guide has a lot of errors, one of the biggest ones being that the "harmonious" and "rustic" items are switched. I'd recommend Liquefy's Item List FAQ, I've never known it to be wrong. Good luck

Yup, I agree with using a different list. Thonky has helped me with a lot of things, but other times they are WAY off. Also, it's my experience that the more stuff you have the better. Be sure to have a full set in each room (or at least the basics Lyle mentions). Then find extra items and shove them in there. All things which CAN go on a table should be on a table. Don't let anything face the wall, etc.

Accessorize with clothes, umbrellas, and other theme fitting items that can be placed in the house as well.

I did mine with fairy tale and basically after I set up all my rooms I grabbed ice furniture and put a few in each room to fill it out a bit and my score went way up.

Once you get the gold upgrades, what style of house are you going to have? (Modern, zen, castle?)

Thank you!!! I mean, I had done so much I was beginning to suspect that there were errors, but it's such a large list that I didn't know how to begin going through and finding what was wrong!

Thanks for suggesting a substitute because, though I am sure I would have found it, you saved me time.

Well, I will, when I find the correct items and get through the stupid mail backlog I've created for myself, get a lot of items. A lot. XD

I've made sure to follow the table and direction rule (as I was completely lost as to why it was messing up.

I currently have a zen caste on a small place surrounded by river on three sides and a huge field of black roses with a water well in the middle to prevent villagers plopping down. I've liked the zen castle look so far, but i just looked up the fully upgraded european style castle and find that I like it's all gold look better. If the zen castle were actually tiered like actual Japanese castles I would go with that, but it looks like a tall box of band-aids at the moment and I like the fuller, wider castle look.

I'm ditching rustic theme and puttings things back the way i had them before the challenge. Switching to castle from zen castle, too.

No problem! I remembered reading that Thonky had two of them switched, but I couldn't remember which ones, so I had to do a quick google search to see if "rustic" was one of them. Sure enough, it was, haha.

I should also point you towards Liquefy's general ACNL FAQ, which is the most complete and accurate guide I know of, if you need to look up anything else about the game. (I believe it has the interior themes on it as well, plus info on how both the theme challenge and regular HHA scoring work.)

I'm at the point where I've just got to have my hybrid roses spit out some blue roses and pass the HHA Theme Challenge and I'm golden. Some badges and cataloguing are all I have left (aside from figuring out how to beautify my little town of Onion XD).

I will definitely check it out.

Ah I see. Good luck with those blue roses -- I've never been able to breed one in either of my towns, I just got a few from other people and bred those. I can give you a breeding pair too if you'd like, unless your goal is to breed them yourself.

I too just have my badges and catalog left to work on, plus a few more fish/sea creatures to catch. My town's pretty much complete (although I've made a few changes since I last updated my dream town, but I'm waiting for a rainy night to update again) -- feel free to let me know what you think if you visit!
