I spent a lot of time terraforming my island and while there are areas I'm really happy with, I'm starting to feel a bit flat about it. I'm almost tempted to reset and just start over. So instead of doing that, I thought I'd share my map and just ask for some advice about the areas that I think need some work.

I'm really happy with where my house is, the campsite area, the museum and two houses beneath it and the middle island area.

But I'm looking for some inspiration for the shopping area - it looks nice on the map with the fountain in the middle but in the game it just falls a bit flat. I'm also not sure about the bottom left where the dirt patches are (currently a orchard) it feels like wasted space that could be made a lot more interesting.

Any ideas?

Hi I would do this changes to make it a little less flat, it helped my town, I was going for a mirrors look when I started. Although is hard to imagine how it looks without seeing your town.

You may not mean literally flat when it comes to your landscape, but I recommend maybe adding some more cliffs here and there to maybe help add more variation :O
For my shopping area, I have nooks cranny on the ground level, and then I put a cliff area behind it and put the able sisters up there. It adds a bit more interest than if they were both on the same level. I actually took some inspiration from this image:

I like the bit at the top of the river. I might have a play around with that to extend the cliff slightly. The campsite area wouldn't really work because there's fencing and lots of items, but I do think it looks cool flowing into the lake. Thanks :)

Sorry, I meant flat as in feeling flat no the land being too flat. I like the idea of having them on separate levels, that might make the shopping area a bit more interesting. Thanks :)

Depends on the vibe you want.
I'd add some water like a lake by the orchard and plant some trees around it.

The shopping district add benches flowers and light posts maybe? Or those stall things?

Just some ideas!
I love your map!

I would say for the shopping area, I would put Nooks on one side and Ables on the other, so like Nook at D2 and Ables at D6. And you can do a cool thing where a bridge goes over the river infront of the stores. Your flower gardens can go on either side of the stores. And I would possibly move the square part you have in the middle island down so it goes to the stores. Or you can make another.

I suggest everyone to get rid of all cliffs and understand how small their island really is. Getting rid of Cliffs, rivers, and ponds, and start planning from scratch. Yes it a very long process (do little each day) but it so worth it.
