So, I see all these really cool dream towns with neat paths and neatly placed PWPs, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to do that and could help me? I really want to make my town look nice, and at the moment it looks like a scraggly mess.

Seconding! ^__^ I'm trying to make my town look more polished as well. How does everyone make their spaces so beautiful?

To start, you'll want to have all the information on where things can and can't go.

Bushes/trees/plants guides:

Next, you'll want to get started planning. It can save time, and those precious bush starts. A lot of people tend to use graph paper to map out where bushes, PWPs, trees, paths, etc, will go. Then use very basic designs to plot it in game. For example, here are a few QRs I've seen used most commonly, if you don't make your own:

Some people work in sections. Decorating around a focal point, then another, before filling in the areas between. While some people go with the full-on destruction mode, taking out every tree, flower, PWP, etc, and starting with a blank slate. Guide on that can be found here:

To be honest, I'll probably do a little of both methods. Wiping an area clean and decorating it before moving on. It's really whatever method works for you, and makes you comfortable. The thought of demolishing my entire town is scary, so I'm hesitant to do that.

Good luck! C:

My town is hardly beautiful, but... what I did was plan, plan, plan! Look at your map and draw out a little copy of it on a piece of paper, mark where houses and ponds are, stuff like that. Walk around ingame and make note of where your rocks are as well, since those can mess up your plans if you don't make sure to work around them.

Look up lists of PWPs and try to think ahead what you want in the future and where you'd like to put it. If you want to plot reset all your future villagers, take that into account; if you want to keep things as they are now, then you can figure out all sorts of creative ways to do your paths (if you want to have paths), plant bushes and flowers, and stuff like that. It goes without saying to take into account what villagers have already suggested, too.

For me, it's easiest to plan if I'm starting with a blank slate, so I destroyed all my PWPs and cut down every single tree, and (with the help of darling Skippeh) moved flowers all into one area. That was a ton of work in and of itself so if you want to get all this done in a day, I'd highly recommend checking out landscaping services on the boards or asking a friend to help you out. Once everything is gone you can plant all your trees exactly where you want them, organize your flowers more easily or use them to mark where future paths and such might go... things like that.

Getting rid of everything might seem extreme at first and it also might not be an appealing option for those who like their town's layout and are just looking to spruce things up, but if you want complete control over the placement of every last tree and bush and flower, it's the way to go. I don't want my town looking "too" overly planned if that makes sense (which it probably doesn't, considering the advice I just gave) so not everything is in perfect rows and lines... things are still a little scattered precisely because I don't want it looking 100% perfect. But I still got to choose which kinds of trees grow where, how many of them... stuff like that...

I'm still not quite done though. Waiting on some PWP suggestions. Hopefully someone else can give you better advice than I did. My last parting bit would be to visit dream towns to get ideas if you're low on them.

ETA: ninja'd while I was typing this up lol
