Lone gamers

For some reason I consider myself a lone gamer. I almost never have anyone to even watch me play my video games or play them with me. On top of that, most of the people I know find the games I play to be boring or they just personally don't like it (ex. games like Animal Crossing, Kirby, Rhythm Heaven, Pikmin etc.) so they sometimes reject even watching me play or playing with me altogether depending on what game it is. As a result, I often only play games that focus only or mainly on a singleplayer experience (ex. Game & Wario, Animal Crossing, Brain Age etc.) and avoid games that focus too much on multiplayer (ex. Mario Party). Sure, there are games that allow you to play online with people and even chat with them, but it can't simulate the feeling of playing with real people.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a lone person. I just consider myself a lone gamer.

How do you guys feel about this? Do you experience the same thing?

I like single player games but I also like some couch co-op games (don't play them often though). I mostly play single player simulation games that most people would find boring to watch another play like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, and hidden object games from Big Fish games.

I usually play games alone, but when it's a game with a nice story my girlfriend always watches with me (she's a gamer too, so sometimes she plays on her own and doesn't want to be spoiled haha XD) that's usually for handheld games though. Games like Zero's Escape and the Ace Attorney games we usually all play but try not to talk about it XD We do play Pokemon and other games together though :)

When there's a really good game on my ps3 (like the last of us) my girlfriend always watches and from time to time my sister and her boyfriend too and we take turns playing^^

Some games on steam that I only bought like The Walking Dead a while ago, I usually play and my girlfriend just watches or helps me while I'm playing XD

I feel sad for people who have to play alone only because a lot of people think Call of Duty is the only good "game" I guess I'm just lucky with the people I've met... I do know that a LOT of people I know call me weird for playing games like animal crossing, pokemon and other stuff that's not call of duty >_< I'm also sad that a lot of games got rid of the Local co-op options and usually only have a online co-op option :/

There might be more people in the Netherlands that play those kinds of games than in the USA (Not being racist, just pointing that out). But that sounds like a lot of fun.

maybe haha XD but when I was still in school I found 1 friend who liked the same kind of games, the rest was all about the hardcore shooter games XD not that it's bad but there's more to gaming than shooting people haha :P

I've always been a "lone gamer" and usually it's not that big of an issue for me. If I want to play something with friends then I'll do that every once in a while, for example when I bought an Xbox 360 just to play Modern Warfare 2 with my friends, but that purchase not only helped me play with friends but opened me up to some new singleplayer games I otherwise would not have been able to play since my PC is garbage and I can't upgrade it. It's never really bothered me if my friends didn't like any of the games I enjoy since I'm the same way with them about a lot of the games they play but neither can convince each other that one side is right so we just keep playing what we enjoy and leave it at that.

The majority of games that I like are one-player, multiplayer games tend to be more casual. It's nice with AC because you can visit other people over wifi though.

League of Legends is the only game I play with IRL friends, so yeah kind of.

Pssh invite me over. I'll watch you play (videogames) all day. I also game alone, mostly because I don't want people to know I game (stashing the ps3's and 7 gens of nintendo systems when polite company is coming over sort of thing). I'm what you'd call a closet gamer, not a lone gamer lol. I also married a football player whos gaming resume consists of Madden and nothing else! I guess that's what making friends online is for? No matter where I move they stay ^^

yeah i usually play video games by myself unless my little sister wants to play with me. that's how it is :/

Okay, you guy are getting what am trying to say. However, here is the problem with me. I am almost forced to play by myself because I often don't have anyone who is actually willing or is able to play with me or watch me play at all.

Pretty much the same for me - most of my friends prefer console games (Xbox, PS3, etc) while I prefer PC and portable stuff. It can get boring, but I'd rather play a game I enjoy by myself than play something I don't like at all.

I have a friend I play games with sometimes. (Used to be ALL the time, but his computer sucks and he won't play games anymore, and he was working to get a computer which would cost around 1200 dollars, he worked until he got to around 300 and wants to buy a smartphone now and hockey gear, WTF? So I am completely left alone now, and he doesn't want to play any games with me. Wont play minecraft, wont play tekkit, wont play terraria, wont play any of the games we used to play for HOURS AND HOURS every day or every other day.) Terraria is a new one for him, but he quit because he couldnt figure out how to place blocks. -_- You LEFT CLICK in the space you want to put it, you dont click ON the block, but the area right next to another existing block. I couldn't explain it any better and he just ended up rage quitting, and doesnt understand that terraria ends up being more fun than minecraft/tekkit imo. I support his decision to get off his butt (unlike me) and play some sports, but he spent weeks trying to get that money, and as soon as school ended, he had it all planned out "By July 10th or so, I should have enough to buy my gaming PC"... It is August and he is still at 300$, and he quit working, I can chip in with some money and help him (I want him to get a PC BAD) but he doesnt want me to, understandably. I am just really irritated at the situation, because I used to have someone to talk to, and he is pretty much my only friend. So, now I am a lone gamer. Unless I convince him to play terraria again, which he spent only 3 dollars on, on steam because it was 75% off :D
