Little Question About Villager Trading

Ok so I had 2 giveaways awhile back.
I'd let the adopter come and talk to the villager; they take them, all's good. But then a couple of days after my villager moves out, I get another villager moving in and they are from the same town I sent my old villager to.

So is this another way of trading villagers?

I think the adopter first voids a villager to be able to make space for the adoptee, and that voided villager is sent my way when I'm the last town that adopter visited.

Is this correct?

Yes, you are getting that person's voided villager -- it's not guaranteed that you would get them so it's not a good way to trade/swap villagers intentionally though.

If you do not want their voided villager you can either ask them to visit another town first to dump their outbox; or you can invite someone yourself within the next day or two, an invitation will always override a wifi/streetpass move-in.
