Now that we're less than a year away, the final "event", "holiday", whatever you want to call it, for non time travelers is Leap Day. It's the final thing I haven't yet done in this game, but I've already seen youtube videos, and you don't get anything, Isabelle doesn't give some kind of cool Nook statue saying it's a day that won't repeat for another 4 years. Still though, it's the final "new" thing to do in New Leaf, so how many others have been with this game since 2013 and have been looking forward to Feb 29, 2016? Can't believe it's less than a year away now!!!
