Lava Lamp PSA

figured I would share this interesting discovery I made with the lava lamp item in New Leaf.

if you take the lava lamp to Re-Tail and have Cyrus customize it, you can make it six different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). however none of the colors you ask for will be what he actually makes it into, unless you ask for orange. I first noticed this when I asked Cyrus to make the lava lamp purple and he made it yellow instead.

I wrote up this schematic to show what colors you get depending on what you ask for:

idk how long this has been an issue and idk if any other furniture has this issue, but I thought it was kinda funny. also frustrating lol.

Really? Because I checked this in my own game and it works properly, as it should. All colours matched correctly
I play the game in Spanish, but I don't think that would be relevant? Just in case, this is the order in which the options are listed (when the lamp is originally blue):

Purple
Green
Red
Yellow

yep, it's messed up in my game. I actually did a quick google search and I found this GameFAQ article where someone had the same problem (apparently this also happens with the balloon dog lamp though I haven't tried to customize that yet). When I go to refurbish the lamp and it's set to the blue color my options are different than yours (in a different order though they don't correlate to the order I gave in the OP).

oddly enough there's actually another thread on here where someone asked about this. I wasn't aware of it until now, but I think it's funny that this glitch remains in the English version of the game even after the Welcome Amiibo update.

Oh, I see! But if the order of colours is different, then I think it more likely to be a messed up mistranslation. Like, let's say the original Japanese list was 1-2-3-4, the English named it 2-3-4-1? And that's why they're mixed. So in other languages they were translated to the actual related colour, even if it might ended up being 4-3-2-1 instead? Just my opinion.

I've heard about this! It seems to be a translation error in the English version of the game. Thank you for making a guide! I hadn't had a chance to try it myself yet, so this is very helpful to know!

As for the Balloon dog lamp I have refurbished and own all of the possible colors and from my experience all of the color options seem to be correct. I own the NA version of the game and play in English most of the time.

Occasionally I do play in French, so I'm curious to know if the Lava lamp error is present in that version as well. If I get a chance to try it I'll let you know of my findings!

I'm pretty positive that it is a translation error like CozyVillager said. I'm just surprised they never caught it and fixed it.

I’m back! The Lava lamp error is present in the French version of the game, in the same order as the English version, which may suggest it was based on the English translation of the game. These are the color options and the results after refurbishing:

Violet (Purple)	Jaune (Yellow)
Orange (Orange)	Orange (Orange)

My guess is that while New Leaf was being translated into English, the translation sheets were mixed up somehow, and this error trickled down to different versions of the game- making it language specific! Since there were multiple translation teams, not all of the versions of New Leaf may contain this error.

As GuerreraD posted, the Spanish version of the game lists the colors as shown above-which if you compare to the list of colors and their results in the English and French versions of the game-would be the correct order! It appears that some translation teams caught the error, while others didn’t. Very interesting!

Is the same here o ask for one color and he gives me another, i was thinking if Cyrus is colorblind.. and i got mad and sold the lamp. Heehee
