Landscape help forest town

I'm making a cedar forest town but I have a problem. You can't plant cedars south of town. How do I make this tie in?
At first I just lined paths with azalea bushes and left it at that but it got...annoying. And it didn't look woodsy at all.

Should I just use bamboo? I know darker bushes will look better.
It's annoying I'm really happy with north of town but south....uhg.
