Know (or want to learn) any foreign languages?

i'm only really fluent in english but i can understand tagalog and speak it a little bit. i would like to become fluent since i spoke it when i was younger (we started speaking strictly english when we moved to the states bc someone told my mom that was a good idea.. and it wasn't). so now i'm slowly trying to relearn.

i also know some korean, i got up to intermediate courses in college but i haven't touched it as much as i would have liked to the past couple years.

i would like to become fluent in spanish also! mostly for work so i can communicate with parents directly instead of waiting for a translator

I can name two right now: Brazilian Portuguese (even though its understandable) and Japanese (because of anime/manga). I also want to learn Chinese maybe but I have no interest in going to China long term and its simply for a personal project I am working on.

Curious to know if anyone is interested in learning any foreign languages, or already is multilingual. Feel free to also talk about your progress in your language of choice, or what inspired you to learn the language. You can also share any language you think you'd like to try learning, even if you have yet to seriously study it.

While it would be cool to learn multiple languages, my main focus has been on learning Japanese. My first real exposure to the language came when I was a kid and Pokemon was at the height of it's popularity, and to keep up with demand, a comic shop near me was importing Japanese Pokemon goods. I remember grabbing a bunch of Japanese cards and finding the completely different language fascinating, but I wouldn't seriously look into learning Japanese until years later. I never did take classes, but I've been self-studying it for a long time and―at least via text―I feel like I can communicate my thoughts decently, given time and access to a dictionary. I'm still far from fluent, though, and because I mostly study written materials, I don't have a lot of practice with speaking or listening. I'd like to find some way to work on that, though, so that maybe someday I can visit Japan at least once and not feel lost trying to communicate.

Sometime several years back (more than a decade, iirc) I did actually take and pass the JLPT N4 (one of the easier levels of the official Japanese Language Proficiency Test). Maybe I can try to aim for passing one of the harder levels, like the N3 or even N2 (for reference, N5 is the easiest level, and N1 is the hardest).

I know Italian but I want to be more fluent in it. I can have someone talk to me in Italian and I understand everything they just said to me I just can't respond back in Italian 100% yet.

English is a foreign language for me and basically that's it. I understand surprisingly quite a bit of Japanese, as a result of watching anime for 18 years I guess. And in my younger years in school I learned German for about 8 years. I even was on a student exchange in Germany and I think my level was pretty good back then, but after years of not using that language I only remember basic words and some grammar. Gladly I'm not feeling bad about this, but it's a little shame that I’ve forgotten almost all of it

Since I already know Spanish, I figure that it probably wouldn't be too difficult in learning another Romance language such as French or Italian. Sometimes I can actually understand various words and even a few sentences when I read them. I can understand even more of Portuguese, but that language hasn't ever interested me.

i know spanish because it's my second language, but i've been wanting to get back into learning german. if not that, then russian! i just think that both are also neat languages to learn!

Native English speaker, and I know Japanese.
I work in a major Japanese gaming company in Tokyo and currently all of my work is in Japanese.

I’ve tried learning other languages too, but have difficulty with consistency after a few months. I’ve been trying to learn Korean off and on for a few years (mostly off haha) but esp. since I probably won’t be going back to Korea for a couple of years my motivation isn’t high enough to keep at it. Since it’s very similar to Japanese it’s easy to pick up for me, so I’d like to at least get to basic conversation level! I follow some Korean content so it’d be fun to use that as chances to learn too.

I am super rusty since I moved away from California ten years ago, but I could understand Spanish really well! Speaking it, though, was something I didnt want to try out of embarrassment!

My only fluent language is English, but I'm studying Spanish at school (which I know everyone does and is not at all crazy), but I actually really like it (unlike basically everyone else in the class) and plan on studying it even after school. I'd also really like to learn German one day

If you enjoy learning the language, you should! I feel like Spanish, or other Latin languages, are beautiful! Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, etc... I can listen to people speak those languages all day without knowing what they are saying, and I would feel content and happy!
