hi there,

so i don't really now where to start but ever since I have started playing new leaf i just couldn't stick with a town so i reset my town everytime, the longest I sticked with a town so far was for a few weeks i believe. and everytime i start over it just gets so tiring because i have to go through the same things over and over so i always give up on my town after a few days since it's so tiring to unlock everything again. i also feel kind of pressured to create a pretty looking town, my perfectionism is ruining everything. has anyone ever felt like that as well?

Hi, I know how you feel. I have a severe anxiety disorder and I'm a bit of a perfectionist due to autism. I always feel the need to create a perfect town that stands out above all the rest. Everything has to be just so, and the maps in this game are so cramped they make me claustrophobic. If I play for too long, I start to melt down or have an anxiety attack.

I think you should try to remove the pressure of having a "pretty looking town." May I ask if you mean pretty as in "like the other towns I've seen or are popular"? Because if that's the case, it honestly only needs to be something that YOU find pretty or just gives you happiness. Maybe if you stick to a town long enough, it will grow on you. The reason I love my town so much isn't because I think it's "pretty" or "perfect" but rather because I've worked so hard on it for years. I saw the town start from the very bottom and grow into something that just makes me happy every time I walk around in it. You haven't allowed yourself time to grow with a town. Trust me, once you let go of the perfectionism and pressure, and just work on it bit by bit without trying to rush yourself or setting such high standards, you will learn to love your town for what it is :) And no matter what it looks like, it'll be beautiful to you because you worked hard on it. At least, that's how I feel! Your town will grow into something you'll find happiness in!

@/UglyMonsterFace thank you so much! i'll keep that in mind

The idea of restarting always seems like so much fun, getting to remake everything fresh and new... until you can't use the things that you had earned before. It's tough, I get where you're coming from!

I would suggest implementing a new town tune, something that makes you really happy to hear. You might consider redoing your town flag, too! Those little bits of customization can help to make everything feel a little fresher without taking away from any progress.

If you aren't opposed to it, you might try a little time-traveling to re-earn some of those features that take a number of days to unlock. At the very least, time-travelling so that you can use the island will make earning bells to shop and fix up the town so, so much easier.

I definitely know how you feel about perfectionism ruining things! I used to feel that way before too, and the game felt like one big chore at times. What helped me though was playing the game with friends :D My town wasn't just something that had to look good anymore, it was a place where I had a lot of fun experiences with other people! And like UglyMonsterFace said, you'll end up liking a town after you've stuck with it for a while, cause you'll have made good memories in it ^^

i strongly relate to this, my resetting problem is very severe and fits in with my perfectionism which is unbearable even for me. I find it very hard to stick with a town and if one thing goes wrong, it's over, even something minor can tip me over the edge when it comes to town design; it is often my own fault though.

i have recently started a new town and will be playing everything safely + with patience. my issues are projected into the game, i can't stand things that i have enthusiasm for going wrong and i suppose having the power to reset after a permanent mistake seems very attractive to subconscious me because i can't do that in the real world.

Although I'm not in the habit to reset my town, sometimes I start getting really nit-picky about how I play the game to the point where it starts to stress me out. At that point, I have to put down the game for a few months to calm down before I can pick it back up again. I don't really have any good advice for you because it's impossible to suddenly be anxiety-free, but I've found that slowly coming to terms with the fact that there will be imperfections in your town that you don't have to fix right away, or can't fix, and that's ok makes playing the game more enjoyable and frankly, more bearable.

I feel like that too sometimes. I've considered resetting my town several times but I have so much progress towards the game now. Before I reset my town 3 times because I wanted to change the look or it wasn't good enough for me :P

It's a shame that you feel pressure from other people's towns, since the whole point of the game is to relax and chill. I've never experienced feeling inadequate about my town but I have burned out several times from just overplaying. The best thing to do is to just take a break. Maybe change the way you play the next time you come back. Eg. If you are a time traveller or a serial resetter, try coming back to the game with a goal that's different from your usual gameplay. The best advice I can give for making your town look the way you want - starting out with a new town, always cover the whole place from head to toe in patterns first. Even if you don't get the villagers you want from the get go, at least you know they'll be going into a good place. Your town might look weird at first, but at least you can slowly work towards a good layout from the beginning.

Everyone here has really good suggestions. I've reset a few times, but it's only after I've come back to my town after long periods of inactivity. I know it's hard to relax when you are a perfectionist, but try to do that. Just think, if you're unhappy with something now, you can change it in the future. Also, if you're the type to never be happy with something, don't place permanent PWPs until you are absolutely SURE you want them where you want them. Or don't place them at all. I'm not putting any in my town because I know precisely that I'll get sick of it being where it is. Everything else (even villager placement) is able to be changed if you just put in the time and patience. I hope you are able to find comfort in all the advice everyone is giving you and that you can rediscover joy in your town.

I've reset my town 6 times because I wasn't content with how it looked. This was mostly because I always copied how other towns looked so it wasnt really 'my town'. Now I just make my town how I want it so I like it the way it is now and I dont plan In erasing it anytime soon.
