Do you guys prefer keeping the same old villagers for a long time or trying out new ones?

I've had 4 towns in NL now (all on the same cart) and I always end up wanting the same villagers. At this point I have 10 villagers that I'm super attached to and it feels wrong not to have them. But I really want to try out some new ones! Especially Felyne, who I've absolutely loved since I first saw his design, but that would mean I'd have to get rid of my other love, Dizzy!

Anyways, have you guys had this problem? Do you keep your old friends or try new ones?

Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold.
Honestly even with my dream lists for my towns, after a while I am planning on switching out some villagers. Especially in my Halloween town, there are just so many neat "costumed" characters that fit the theme so I'd like to be able to switch them out now and then but keep my really best friends. :)

I switch them out! I got rid of Bob because I wanted to try Wade out, and so far I love him. Although Static will always be a resident, I'd probably be upset for a week if he moved out

Oh yeah, I had this problem very recently, actually. I loved having Muffy, Rod and Agnes in my town, but because I didn't really cared much for them in the end, I replaced them with other villagers. Even still, it was hard letting them go and I hope to get them again if I decide to make a third town.

I'd probably have a mixed of old and new villagers if I don't have another town but I still fall into the habit of switching them out when I want to try something new. Felyne is adorable though! I'm not fond of cats in general (or just gotten tired of them because of having three in the other town). I hardly given him a second look when I saw him in the pictures until I had the chance to interact with him when I visited this lovely forest town. His >u< expression is irresistible :)

I tend to keep in ones I loved for a long time like Fang, Phil, Chrissy. But I did get to meet some awesome new characters with the amiibo update like Bluebear, Zucker, Felyne, and Agnes. So I guess I've actually got a mixture of old and new. Certainly do miss Vic, Kyle, Shep, Sally and O'hare to name a few but the town's full up already. Maybe in the second town I'll put them there.

Nah, first comes first serve! Even if the first 5 villagers aren't popular, I still keep them 'til whenever I feel like switching out (probably until I get their pictures to keep record). So far, I have Shari, Blanche, Skye, Bonbon, Walt, Tex, Rocket, Erik, Moose, and Curt; and they're all the 10 villagers I kept!

I see no reason to change them. They're all the same anyway. For example I could get rid of Avery but he's the same as every cranky so what's the point?

Yes very true, but we also react to looks, whether we like it or not. I have had minor differences in dialog with the same personality type, maybe I talk a little more to one as I like their look and hence find a phrase I've not heard before - unsure but I do react slightly differently with villagers of the same personality.
Its partly the catch phrases/greetings you give them, & I try to make the words fit the character/species as much as I can. (Or give them phrases totally outside of their character type, which can be funny). Whatever, it does give each of them a little bit of individuality.

i have no problem with having new villagers if i have them in another town. it's nice to try something new but since you're pretty attached to them i would think about it a lot and switch one out and see how you feel.

Am I the only one who sticks to old villagers from my first 2 GCN towns? The only villagers in my New Leaf town that are 'new' are Chief, Cherry, Whitney (I guess, even though I've watched the movie) and W. Link. I just like my old villagers so much that I never want to let them go.

I've tried keeping the original first 9 villagers I had, but Sprinkle ended up leaving anyway and like 1 month ago I decided to let curlos go because I really want Zell as my smug neighbor. I still have the original 7 after having played for a year. I'm also waiting for Maple to leave my couple's town because I want her badly and he already has another bear lol.

Same. My last game I spent 2 years playing I've had probably 80% of all the villagers. There's almost no difference and at this point I want to run into villagers who make me happy around town.

I wish the old villagers were on the game if you wait not just amiibo I really want Claude and Dobie. Ah well.

I keep some of my favourites, and I get rid of some. It depends how attached I am to them really. I've found with some of my favourites in new leaf, when they don't really feel the same as they do in past games I tend to get rid of them and replace them with new villagers. Besides, if I have them in another game it's not like I won't be able to visit them. However some of my favourites are a must-have to me, so I feel like I must-have them in town no matter what, even if I have them in another game in the series. For example, my favourite villager Ruby because she is my favourite villager in the game after all and it'd feel wrong not to have her with me in the journey of any of my towns. I'm also like this with Genji. I recently let him go for my cafe placement and I regret it so i've decided to get his amiibo card to invite him back in. Sometimes nostalgia can get in the way though because I have found myself being bored of a must-have villager, but i've kept them because of the memories i've had with them in past games.

It is nice to experience new villagers, sure all villagers are the exact same as another personality wise so it doesn't matter who you get rid of but that's where the perception of the looks of villagers come in. Sounds incredibly shallow but it's the only real way we can decide whether we like a villager or not since the personalities are exactly the same. I've had villagers I thought I really liked, but then got rid of for other villagers and really liked them too.

I keep all of the villagers in my old town. I've had most of my villagers for three our four years, so I am very attached to them and don't want to lose them.

I don't really know what I am going to be doing with my second town though. I like all of my villagers but I have no idea how long I will end up keeping them down the road. I'm just going with the flow with my new town

If we're talking different towns, then I like switching it up. I actually got sentimimental the first time I created my second town. It took me a while to warm up to my villagers even though they were all ones I chose. It makes it more interesting to have different looking villagers in each of your towns.
