I just opened this to help other ppl get their 20, not to raise my own count.

That issue is actually addressed in said stickied thread. Unfortunately, getting a fortune from another town doesn't count towards your hometown's public works project.

I read on a site that it was possible to get the count up for your own public works project by going to other towns, but was proven wrong a bit later. I had hoped the information on that site was true and also made a claim here prior to reading the sticky, but was fooled the same way a lot of other people were. It's an honest mistake anyone could have made. Sites out there are just misinformed, that's all.

Yeah, it is... You'd think since you were able to visit her in other towns that there was a way those visits could count toward the town you live in if you were the mayor during that visit. But since she says 'people of your town are interesting in fortunes' during the 20th visit in your town, it's not very likely. I learned that the hard way...
It's not like other events in the game where you can go to other towns and get things from Isabelle or Leif. Kind of wish it was, though. Would make things a lot more simpler and quicker.
