Sorry if there's already a similar thread out there because honestly there probably is. :p

I've had ACNL for years and I'm on my 3rd town now (I just reset today) but in my previous two towns I've just ended up unhappy with how it ended up looking. I'm super amateur at landscaping and whatnot so I was hoping for maybe some tips???? I can't actually do much yet since obviously I don't have my gardening store but I'd like to get a couple ideas/suggestions to point me in the right direction.

I'd really like for my town to look nice but I just don't know where to start.

have you thought of any themes you may want to go with? that may help when it comes to how you want to landscape your town.

ik a lot of ppl say it helps cutting down all their trees and then working on a layout also.

here's my map, sorry for the insanely low quality. also, I'm hoping to go for a more forest/rustic theme this time around. it's kinda late where I'm at so I don't really have time for visits but yeah hopefully this helps!!

It's ok if you don't have your gardening shop yet; you can always buy regular flowers, hybrids, shrubs and saplings from people in the Retail forum :3

Ideally before you started landscaping, you would have all 10 of the villagers you want, all of the characters you want (I recommend you make all 4, even if you don't think you'll play them right away) and all of the pwps you want already placed. After that, landscaping becomes pretty easy, because you don't have to worry about move-ins destroying your flowers, and there are only so many places left to decorate. In my town, I...

1. Plant flowers around pwps, villagers' houses, character houses, and ponds
2. Use tree stumps around certain pwps (like the fire pit, or fountain) where I or my villagers can sit
3. Plant bamboo around certain decorative walkways, or use it to separate certain areas (like the entrance to Retail, or the train station)
4. Plant small fields of flowers in spaces where there's not enough room for villagers to plot (if you don't have all 10 of your dreamies, yet)
5. Use sea shells or coral along natural pathways
