Just bought this today and need some help.

Like the title says I just bought it and need some help. I start it up, go the the name, birthday, picture, and choose my island etc. We go to the island and we're told to go to the plaza so the trash panda can make a speech. We go there and he just stands there does/says nothing. I can't do anything at all until he does. The game is fully updated/patched. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix it.
