I went to the bookstore today and found a (Japanese) New Leaf guide book that I picked up mainly because it was super cheap (100 yen - less than $1). The non-Japanese fandom doesn't really mention this book. Does anyone know how it compares to the perfect guide book? The book store had the perfect guide book but it costed a little more (I think 600 yen) and it was wrapped in plastic, so I couldn't flip through it. The book I bought is about the same thickness as the perfect guide book. It also comes with the separate catalog check book that I've heard the perfect guide book comes with.

This is the book I bought. It looks like this:

For comparison's sake, this is the perfect guide book. It looks like this:

I have the prefect guide book, but not the one you have. If you could take a few pics of some of the pages and send them to me in a PM I could compare to the perfect guide book and let you know.

Jake - Will try to do. I need to find my digital camera. Don't have a data plan on my phone so can't get any pics off of it that I take. Makes my phone a fairly pointless camera. :/

It's a 620 page book + an 80 page separate catalog book. It's called The Complete Guide. Here's how it's split up for those curious:

Section 1: Gameplay (142 pages) - It has most gameplay stuff excluding information about holidays. It has a face guide, information about flower breeding, pictures/info about all of the projects you can build, information about all of the stores and upgrades, how to do feng shui, and many more things.

Section 2: Villagers (40 pages) - All the info you'd want about villagers. A pic of them, a picture of the pic they give you, birthday, liked clothes, hated clothes, favorite coffee, Halloween scare info, etc.

Section 3: Calendar/Holidays (70 pages) - Month by month, all the info you'd want. Birthdays, holidays, what to do during holidays/events, bug/fish info, etc.

Section 4: Catalog (all the rest - like 370 pages) - Pictures and info about pretty much everything. Cataloged stuff, non-cataloged stuff (to include pictures of all of the ice creams and balloons and things like that), more charts of when you can catch bugs/fish, etc. The only things I see that are missing is info about DLC and pictures of what things look like after you give them to Cyrus. They *do* at least tell you what you can take to Cyrus.

The extra book basically has the names and pictures of each item again and a check box next to it if you want to mark down if you have it.

This seems like a cool book to me, I just have nothing else to compare it to. I really wish you could see the refurbish options. That's the one thing I think is missing. The book has a TON of pictures, but you will get the best out of it if you can read Japanese.

Hi DJ.
I have 2 Japanese guide books (might have a 3rd, I can't remember) as well as the US book, but I don't have the one you bought.
I really like this one because it does show all of Cyrus' refurbished options.

This is also a nice one, but doesn't have the refurbished options or at least not all of them (I don't have the books with me right now to double check).

But all the Japanese guide books are so much better than the US version. I learned so much more from the Japanese books than the US one and I don't even speak/read Japanese.

Thanks Rendra. The first book was also at the book store. I forget how much it costs. Next time I go, I might have to buy that too.

You are welcome.
The 2nd book (blue cover) does have a picture of what each villagers original interior house looks like (small picture) and it also has a picture of a room decorated with each furniture set (regal, sweets, and so on).
There are a few Cyrus refurbished items in the back, but nothing like the 1st book (white cover) has. The white cover one even shows what ores an items can be changed with (but no picture) and also if it can be changed with a shirt pattern or a custom pattern.
